Title: Weber Q100 and a draw bar mounted bayonet...
Post by: MDSimpson on March 03, 2013, 09:40:47 AM
OK, So I had a plumber hook up a bayonet fitting on my draw bar on the Flamingo, all I need now is find a suitable gas hose, bayonet-3/8" about 3 meters long.
Found one on ebay, but the seller notes "not suitable for Weber BBQ", I ask why, he says, because they have had issues, but did not go into details.

Now, in my tiny manbrain, I figured, if I had a regulator on my gas bottles, and had the bayonet fitting installed, a length of hose is all I'd need, right?

Why would this not work? Or should I just buy it anyway?

Here is the listing in questions..

I guess the issue may be that your regulator may not be rated to suit the webber. Ask your gas man he will know the specs.

But my little man brain is like yours and I think that hose is fine given that you have a reg at your gas bottles.

Could be, I'll compare the two...
Thanks fellow TinyBrainer... :)

As Far as I am aware the threads on the gas fittings for heaters and the like (as in your ebay link) use a different thread to weber.

I would be going to your nearest Kleenheat Gas House or BBQ's Galore they should be about to sell you a non genuine hose for aroung the 40 dollar mark. While it may cost a little bit more than ebay you wont end up with the hassle of it not fitting.

When I bought my baby Weber Q I asked about a 3M hose. The supplier said Weber discontinued that accessory due to a problem but could not specify what it was. ???

Bought our 3m hose from the store that sold us the Weber. Wasn't the Weber brand but works. Also bought a 19mm cap that goes on a chair leg or something from Bunnings to go over the bayonet fitting to keep the dirt and dust out. Works a treat. Had to buy a 4 pack so have spares. Under $2 so a good investment.

Found another on ebay, states specifically for Weber, 3/8 SAE whereas the others are 3/8 BSP, not sure what the difference is... Mind you it is almost three times the price.

Not 100% sure about Webber,, but i suspect they use 3/8 sae fittings.
The hose on ebay is 3/8 bsp
will not interchange.
Also the length of the hose... make sure you burn the gas of in the hose at the end of use... IE turn the bottle of and let it burn out..
will help to avoid flare ups...

Thanks BHG, I am never too sure on these gas abbreviations...
I always run the gas out of the lines when done...

You are right BHG the Weber is SAE and the standard hoses for heaters etc are BSP.. I couldnt remember the abbreviations but that is what I was trying to convey in my earlier post.

I have bought a 2.7M hose and regulator from BBQ Galore.
The Weber supplied regulator is type 698; 2.Kg/h and 2.8Kpa
The BBQ supplied regulator is type 75-1-8; 3.5 Kg/j and 3.8Kpa.

Does anyone know if this is OK for the Weber Baby Q?
 ???

Seems Weber now also do a 3m hose although a bit more expensive than the one D4D found

When i bought my Weber Baby Q, i went to the local gas merchant & bought a hose and adapter to fit the Weber.
Also asked him about the difference in Weber regulator, & regulator supplied by Jayco with gas bottle.
Agreeing the Weber was USA regulator.
He advised me... NO difference.

The fault with the long hose could be flow rate lose due to the length.
To overcome this, 2 things could be done.
1. Larger size hose
2. Increase regulator pressure to drive the gas through the small size hose over the greater distance.
This is just a suggestion of what to consider.

Hey DaveR, I have cooked a few BBQ's with the Weber hanging off this 3m hose and never had an issue.
Couple of roasts, cooked for an hour or so, and a few steaks and banga's etc...
This was also with the fridge running on gas, and stuff cooking on the gas inside (hmmm, gravy).

No problems here..

We have a bayonet fitting on our drawbar running through the regulator from the van. Couldn't get the baby Q hot enough. Checked the lines for rubbish and still the same. Played with the pressure a bit and it is better. Cooks a roast ok and last time we were away the weather was cooler and the Q got the hottest it has been. Was going to get the gas pressures checked but at the moment will leave it alone.

MD - Any chance you could take a pic of what it looks like now? I'd like to have the same thing done on mine.

Hmm, I better check the hose I have to see if it will fit on my Weber. I just assumed they were all the same thread onto the BBQ.
