The time has come for us to go and place an order for the Jayco Swift Outback - we've decided to bite the bullet and get it ;D We like the trailer we have BUT it is just too much work, and we're not getting any younger.
Can't get too excited just yet as I think the lead time is 3 months...... anyway we are debating about the awning; the wife wants a Fiamma, but I think we should go with the bag awning.....any opinions Jayco owners?

I have a couple of friends with fiammas that I have been away with. I bought my jayco second hand and took the bag awning off and purchased a fiamma without hesitation..
Hands down better than a bag awning in my opinion.

The bag awning is so much better and easier to work with.
I have a Swift Outback with the bag awning and would not go for the Fiamma......

not trying to be smart here but, Can you please explain how a bag awning is easier? Mine had 10 poles and was near on impossible to put up by ones self and it needed to be pegged out etc.
Fiamma takes less than thirty seconds and if its windy 1 minute to bash a couple of pegs in and fit the 2 guy ropes. Even my wife can do it!

bag awning does take time to put it up but not a long time... if you put the walls up then it takes probably 30 minutes longer or so..... just depends...
Does the fiamma come with full annex option I would probably buy one if that was the case...

The Swift has two poles only for the bag awning and the guy ropes and pegs are only needed if it gets extremely windy.
Takes me twenty seconds to put mine up. My wife does it in fifteen.

This has been discussed before. The general consensus is that the fiamma is the way to go. I was told by our dealer that the bag awnings are more stable during storms etc, but after raising this on here was promptly told that is a load of salesman BS and that nobody has ever had a problem with the fiamma, so that's the way I would go with 20/20 hindsight. Not sure if the walls are any easier to attach tho.

I was told by mt dealer that you can't fit an annex to the fiamma tool out not sure why.

I use annexe walls a bit. The walls for the fiAmma seemed pretty fiddly.
Other than that the bagged awning is also a fair bit cheaper.
That said, I think I am swimming against the tide.

I sold my 7 year old bag awning for 250 bucks and paid 600 bucks for my s/h but looks new fiamma. Annexe walls are of no interest to me so Im pretty happy with the deal.
A two pole bag awning probably wouldnt be so bad. When it had as many poles as the one I did a different story all together.
Everyone has different needs when out and about.. I recommend having a look at both when at your dealer and making up your own mind.

I have the Fiamma Caravanstore on my old Jayco Dove. It is ultimately a bag awning with all the bits pre fitted.

Just unzip roll out, drop the legs and all done. Sorry and add 2 guy ropes. Works for me but I do see the advantage of the wind out models.

It comes down to the style of camping you do. I have a bagged awning with walls on the finch. It is great for extended stays, but for overnighters I would love something quicker. I plan to move the bag to the offside and get a Fiamma.

Thanks for your input. With the CT we have at present we tend to put up the whole annex, as we have the fridge and other stuff in there, also somewhere to keep the chairs dry overnight.
I guess the wife will get her own way (as she normally does :laugh:)

Is it a 2.5 m fiAmma for a swift? I saw a second hand one for 250 about a month ago.

I'm with Fozzle - we are on our 3rd Fiamma and love them! The first one was on a horse float and made long days at horse comps more enjoyable. The second one was put on our 2010 Eagle (which by the way is currently for sale......) -we sold the existing awning and annexe for the same money it cost to put the Fiamma on :-). Our new OB Eagle came with a Fiamma so perfect for us!
Quick set up and we have shade, we don't have much use for a full awning.

The Jayco Swift OB is on order 'sweet' ;D Estimated delivery end of April, even better......
