G'day all, looking to purchase my first 4x4, and when comparing a Pajero NM/NP with a 90 series Prado which one has the most interior room? Trying to fit 3 growing kids in the back and gear in the boot just wondering which is more comfy and roomy so I don't have to put up with all the whinging from the back that we're to squashed! Any thoughts....
Cheers Jacko

To be sure, get a Cruiser.

I dont know personally but we have friends with 4 young children and they went with Prado dont know about series as it had more space and fitted 3 car seats well plus the one in the back row in still on car seat. I guess some options for space are roof racks with a basket or pod good luck

It's not how big it is, Jacko!

100 series.

Yep figured it was a loaded question before I asked it ;D If I could get a 100series in my price range I'd have one for sure, guess I keep lookin
Cheers for the reply's, Jacko

If you need 3 car seats it gets pretty tight on the backseat of the prado as they don't have anchor points in the back. You also need to make sure the car seats are as narrow as possible. There are tie down points but you are not supposed/allowed to use them with child restraints. Having said that if you can fit the three across the back you have fairly good boot space.

I think the 90 series Prado is probably comparable in size to the earlier NL Paj, so possibly narrower than the NM/NP Paj, happy to be proven wrong though.
Other big difference is Prado has split 3rd row seat, so can use one or both. NM/NP Paj has a 2 seater bench as a 3rd row seat, so takes up the whole width of the boot even if carrying one kid.
Ultimately if 3 kids - Paj may be better, 4 kids - prado may be better, 5 kids - Paj may be better.
Just remember, take your tape measure or trial fit the kids to make sure. Looks can be deceiving. Had my NJ Paj parked next to SIL's GU once, having just unloaded all our luggage. Decided to compare the boots with the tape measure - internally Paj same width, Paj taller, Paj shorter between 2nd row seat and boot door, ultimately similar volume, different shape even though the GU is a "large" 4wd.

We found this when going from the. 100 series to the 120 prado. 90 is narrower still.

Our friend's have 3 kids and they chose a NP Pajero and they say it serves them well.

lf you strap the kids into a big trailer on a long a frame at 100km you wont hear any whinging & WONT CARE ANT WAY :cup:

What about a Jackaroo I find ours is more comfortable for passengers than our GU

A member in our club went from a Jackaroo to a Patrol and he loves it. Much better.

Depends on what you are doing with it. For on road travels with a few passengers I'd take the Jack everytime. Offroad stuff then the Patrol but the patrol is nowhere near as civilized as the Jack for passenger comfort I feel.

I think we have the NP :-) (2005 model) felt more comfy to us than the Prado.
The Paj's back seats are not that comfortable, kids grown up so was not a problem.
We now have three kids seats in the second row to suit smallish 2 x 3 Yr olds and a 1Yr old. It is a bit of a squeeze. The Paj has three anchor points.
Can't imagine the Prado being any bigger. Son's Patrol handles the three more comfortably.
An advantage of the Paj is the third row of seats can be removed and the space under the floor (they fold down under the floor rather than sit against the sides) used for extra bits and pieces.
Good luck.

3 child seats = cruiser
Even comparing to our commodore, the 100 series cruiser is a lot easier with the 3 kids seats.

Don't need car seats as kids are 12,9 and 6 so only the young bloke still in one for another few months, then they will be gone for good! ;D the kids are all pretty tall so need the room for legs etc, which is the reason why I ruled out the Jackaroo as when I sat in one it was to cramped with not enough leg room for me, definitely not suited to long trips which is what we are aiming for. We have a commodore now so looking to see if the Paj is similar in size to it.
