Hey guys,
Wondering what you do for water when you're off camping. Last I went camping, we had allocated 20 litres of water per person per day for the two weeks. This however, was a luxury that is not normally possible with a 4WD.
How much water do you carry per person per day?
I think that I would struggle to get by with less than 5 litres per person per day. 2-3 litres for drinking, and 2 litres for washing. Though 7-8 litres would be a lot nicer.

i never work it out L/per/day
I have 72L in the camper trailer and approx. 50L in the defender and top them up as required
20L/per/day is a lot of water, if water is readily available the we go nuts but if its not i.e. crossing the simpson than we back right off on th usage
how much capicity do you currently have?
where are you planning to camp/tour
when touring i always booked into caravan parks every x amount of days to top up with water

That's the rub for the missus and I now in the driest State in the driest continent. Without being overly mindful we've found the Jayco Dove's tank (65Litres I believe) runs out on the 4th day camping and we carry 10L in the car for that eventuality (finish a meal, dishes, etc) In any case with sponge bathing we're ready to hit the park showers again after 3 nights.
As I recall with the 2 kids and the earlier Dove that was the same, although we'd be more frugal then and I hadn't fitted an electric pump to the last one. Its the reason we're happy with a 3 way fridge and no expensive solar setup. Different ball game if you're based in wetter States I guess.

We normally carry the 120l in the tanks, this is purely for washing. We also carry 10l of fresh drinking water per day for cooking and drinking. The fresh water lasts 1.5 days normally though. I only carry enough fresh water for 2-3 days, depending on where we are travelling of course.

That seems like a lot of water to use. We carry 70 litres in the camper trailer and another 50 litres extra for the two of us. I reckon that would last us at least 10-12 days if we are careful,which equates to around 5-6 litres per person per day.
I'm more than happy to swim in the ocean, a creek or billabong instead of using valuable drinking water when you can, and luckily so is the other half. If there's plenty around, then that's another story

Should add that this is for 2 adults 2 teenagers and a 9 yo. Also we don't drink the water from the tanks, have had problems with delaminating anks in the past.

85L tank and 2x 25L jerry's.
Thats for myself, missus & 3 kids, often they like to bring a friend or 2 with them though and fill up as often as possible...

Yeah, definitely 20L was more than was required. We ended up tipping out a heap of water before leaving.
On average we were using around 2.5 litres per day for drinking per person and about the 3 litres per day for baths per person. We usually will heat our water up on the stove, and recirculate it with a 12v shower.
We were generally doing our washing up with ocean water, but sometimes we did use fresh water for this so another 3-4 litres there.
Yeah, I think 5-6 litres per person per day to be reasonably comfortable is good. Could go to 3-4 litres per person day, if you really had to push the distance between water refills.
