Title: New Camps 7 book released
Post by: jeb1900 on February 08, 2013, 01:35:16 PM
The new Camps 7 book has just been released,  how do the owners of existing Camps book rate them?  Worth it?  I've never owned one, but considered getting one several times.  Any reviews?

The book is well worth the money for the help it gives in finding a place to pull up overnight when on the road.  We always have ours (Camps 6) in the car when touring.

I have 6. Good book, I photocopied the legend page so I could reference the icons for each park I am looking at.
Camps6 with Wikicamps on the iPad is an awesome combo...
Wikicamps has the option for reviews and photos and is kept up to date..

True, so far I have managed to get by with my smartphone and the internet.  Although I'm hoping to do a bigger trip than I usually do, and may end up with unforeseen delays and end up in stopping at different places.  I think I may have to invest.  Good to not fully rely on technology all the time too....

Yes it is good to have a current backup for technology fails us.

As Michelle Bridges would say JFDI......

Used our camps 6 last trip we only had a general itinery so when we stopped for lunch we would get the book out and find somewhere to stay for the night a couple of hrs down the road.

Great if you like cp parks, truck stops, wayside parks and rest areas.
Buy a slab instead.
Same info on the net in one minute

I'll be buying it when I see it in BCF or any other store.  Looks good, but time will tell.

We've got Camps 6 and was great on our recent 5 1/2 week holiday :)  Easy to find places to have lunch etc. and we could work out roughly what was going to be around in the times we wanted a break.

Another good one is Guide to free campsites 2013/2014.  Not as many as what is listed in Camps, but still a handy book for $20

Net = world wide 24-7
If you have a selective service, plan a day head.

I have Camps 6 and it's a great source of information when planning a trip, but there are still a few good (and popular) campsites that are not in it. I hope Camps 7 is a lot more up to date.

I've still got camps 5.  Couldn't tour without it.  The old girl is dog eared and torn now, but cannot part with it.

Do you go camping outside of the Melbourne metro area?   :-*

We've spent weeks with no phone or Internet service available.

Have the Camps App on the iPad.    8)

Yes mate, am 8 days into a 32 day trip and doing quite nicely. No prior bookings and only a rough idea of an itinerary.
Heading to Wyangala Res tomorrow for 4-5 days then to Blowering Res for a similar amount of time.
Both have heaps of campsites.
The number in Camps 6 =  nil.

I have seen it on sale for $49.46 online with free postage if your total order is over $50. I think the site is travel universe.

Has anyone seen it any cheaper anywhere?

Our Camps7 arrived in the mail today.  One thing different is that there are no longer any "red tick" marked sites (author's recommendations) which we used to value.

But this means our CAMPS6 (standard spiral bound edition, not the one with site pics) is available to someone who wants it for the price of postage (original price $59.50).  Good condition except for four pages of the index which have separated from the binding. And the pages for Queensland and NSW have been marked with the updates from the website, so that should be a plus.

It weighs 1.3kg and will come from postcode 4514 which is probably a $12.50 satchel to most places.  Send me a PM.

Cheers
Oddy.

Wife just got Camps 7 @ the caravan & camping show today for $39.95
She asked the lady @ RAA"do you price match?" The thing was she was looking @ a camps 6 book that was discounted elsewhere.
