Title: Trailer brakes not working
Post by: BigJules on January 30, 2013, 08:32:52 PM
I was delivering a tractor down to the Riverina today, had some trouble with trailer brakes and bearing.

Can't quite put my finger on the problem.

Crown nut seems fine

F4rkin wheel fell off as I rounded a truck up this small hill. I walked for half an hour and couldn't find the bloody thing.

I think the pads are a bit thin!

Amazing how far a departed wheel can go.  I've only ever lost one, it went for about 400m in thick forest. Was able to track it via broken branches and scuff marks on tree trunks.

Was that before or after your good samaritan act?

Mace, that was before. Once that happened my planned day was over.

I drove back along the bit of road too, tomorrow, with no trailer in tow I'll get down into the scrub and hope to find the wheel and tyre. Then, the three wheeled  wiggle back to Sydney I hope.

So Jules, hows the ol touch test system working out for you these days?  ;D

Sure is quicker than that silly idea of pulling the hubs off huh.
Silly thing to do really, getting grease all over ya hands as ya repack the bearings.

I think i might try the touch test and see how it pans out......
