I am looking at putting a small safe in our Outback Hawk before our next trip in Feb to store our small valuables such as phones, iPad etc.
Is this a common thing in campers?
On our last trip I was constantly worried about leaving the camper alone for the day whilst we were out for the best part of the day - beach etc.
Cheers,

We have never had a problem, just lock temptations in the Prado if going out for a while....

I used to sell digital safes for a living.............whatever you do don't leave the batteries in them while it's not in use and don't expect them to keep anyone but the most honest thief out

So what would you suggest ? I was thinking along those lines too. Maybe a pistol safe ?

for ease a digital safe is best, but if you go off road you run the risk of shaking the electric solenoid to pieces and only able to open them with a over ride key........... combo safes will go the same way and in all honesty a cheap chinese key safe wont be much better
I have a aussie made hand gun safe with a good quality key lock but it weighs 18 kilo's so I just keep stuff hidden in the car

For my valuables I have an old 10lt plastic bucket with a lid and wiggles stickers on it and a sign that reads : nappy bin.
Never lost a damn thing....

We don't worry about safes. Everything goes in the tug if it needs to be locked away.

I fitted a neat little key safe to my camper.....
I'll find a link. It's not big enough for an ipad but plenty big enough for wallets, passports, money, other valuables......
Its designed for a car, but bolted it through. You'll never get it out, not without tearing thy camper apart, and as always, if thy steal the whole lot, not much you can do then........

We use one of these hidden, they used to be all over eBay but can't find many sellers now.

I know the bloke who runs this company: http://www.hideawaysafe.com.au/ (http://www.hideawaysafe.com.au/) . You see him at a lot of camping shows. No I don't have one, but Dad has his mounted in the canopy of his ute.

Why not get yourself a small metal toolbox and a padlock

We do the same......valuables get locked in the roller drawers in the car.
If they take the car ??? ???..........well, that's life.......we try not to worry about it too much........

The thing with a safe is its an advert, saying all the good stuffs here so stop looking. As for hiding the safe you might as well just hide the valuables for the same reason.
