Title: Storage Boxes for Camper
Post by: BernieS on January 07, 2013, 12:07:02 PM
Over the xmas break decided to start packing up camping needs (most of our gear is stored in the understairs cupboard, some is in the man shed, some in the hallway cupboard) in readiness for our CT delivery.  I wanted to get a couple more storage containers, so off I went to Bunnings, Masters, and various other warehouse arrangements.. ie Sams... etc.  What is it with the rubbish storage containers, none of the lids clip on in any sort of sturdy fashion. Some didn't even have clips.

Bought ply instead to make a Tucker Box.  Hubby is working on that one and it's almost finished. Needs another coat of sealer, and handles.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy decent storage containers, I still need a couple for towels/ linen etc.  Thanks in advance.

Bernie, I found the boxes too restrictive for the limited space I have available in the tub of our CT.  For towels etc I just use the cloth shopping bags or similar.  Find I can stuff them into more places than a rigid plastic box.

I've been in your shoes looking at the cheap plastic rubbish tubs they all sell now. Drop them on the dirt and they fall apart.. :(

but apparently people don't want to pay for quality, so this is the Shit your left with

try ARB or similar for Space cases... stupid expensive, but they last for ever and 2 days.

KB yes see where you're coming from. I usually pack towels and linen into those zip (also cr_p) bags from the $2 dollar shop. To keep the bulk down I've bought proper camping towels from Anaconda. If hubby puts on weight he'll be in trouble... ;D

Thanks Crisp. I actually found that site whilst I was surfing and have organised for a quote.  The boxes look pretty good.

The other challenge is most of the containers have sloping sides so you lose valuable storage space when you stack them together. Spacecases are the ultimate but big $. That said Bunnos stock them now and they're half the price of ARB. I was actually talking to my mate at ARB the other day who is about 2klm from the Bunnings that stocks them. His cost price is more than Bunnos is selling them for...

Remember the post in another thread that someone had made up in the UK or SA canvas boxes possibly lined with a board with a zippered lid and folded flat when not in use. Brilliant.
Someone should be able to post a link.

We have just purchased around 20 black 52L containers with lids from Blackwoods. You can also get a 65L or there abouts that also stack well with the smaller ones. Height wise 2 x 65L is the same as 3 x 52L boxes. We bought these to put our stuff into long term storage rather than cardboard boxes. Must say not cheap at about $30 something per box but it worked out cheaper than bunnings for a similar size.

Don't know, they came with the storage system.
But if I remember correctly they are around $45 each.
We use it to store the cans of softdrinks and beer plus packs of juices, towels etc.
One box I use for the recovery gear as they are very sturdy.
