Hi Swaggers,
Just wondering if anyone was at or heading to Sandy Creek near Kilcoy?
Looking at trying to get there in mid to late Jan for a few nights with the Strvy clan!
If you are, let me know.
Cheers

Might be going up for the Austraila day long week end... but that is a big maybe.........
-
At the rate this place is being promoted, the ONLY campers there this Aus day will be myswag members. Worth a look if free.
-
I love this place, please stop telling everyone about it.........
-
Haven't been there yet but want to go......
-
It is $120.00for the Australia day weekend.
Friday-Monday.
I rang up today and that is what she said.

Yep and Brian won't discount if you want only 2. I think as from today from speaking to Brian the place is at his 30 families capacity. So off to Kenilworth homestead we go. Next will be back to sandy as its a horrible place and you don't want to go there .. Lol .. Not

Hotboost when do you think you'll be heading up to kenilworth? We are looking at going the weekend before Australia Day weekend.
Cheers

There are many reports of this being a great spot, but we can't bring ourselves to go there - we live just 8 km away! Although at a somewhat higher altitude, at 600m, in the hills East of that site, in a locality called Bellthorpe. And that 8km is as the crow flies; by road it would be about 50 km, a fair bit of it on dirt, to get down to the D'Aguilar Hwy and then back up to Sandy Creek. We love our rainforest block, and this part of Qld, but so far we have gone a bit further before setting up our CT.
For only just over 100km from Brisbane, this area has a lot of inaccessible bushland within the Bellthorpe National Park and the Conondale National Park. But there is next to no opportunity for CTs to stay in the hills, and few tracks for walkers either, with the Conondale Great Walk the main exception (and no, we haven't done it). So the Sandy Creek camp ground is about your only opportunity at the South end to experience the area, with the Kenilworth area on the North side and Peachtrees on the West side being the other opportunities. Happy to help with info about the area and access if asked.
Cheers

Good onya son !! I rate it as one of the best privet camp grounds I've stayed at. Quite happy to do the hours to go back again, great people too. Enjoy mate.

Thanks bullfrog
Third trip in the new camper!! Do you have any pics of the camping areas? Sort of going blind, but from all the hype, we thought we'd give it a go!! And the price was pretty good to!!

I'm heading there this Easter with at least one of my brothers, possibly the other too. I think Brian has us up the top furtherest from the amenities, usually we are beside them. Works well with us as the little ones can't just wander down to the creek, gives us some peace of mind and dries up quicker after a rain ;D. Will have the stickers on the trailer by then, just ordered some today...

I think I have some photo's my SIL took when they first went there to check it out, with no one there, I'll try and find them for you.

I took bugga all pics, but have a dig back in the trip reports & have a squizz at the trip Theo ( Jetcrew) done almost 12mths ago. It was a great week/ w/end, a very well kept venue run by top people, you can't go wrong mate. Say gday to Brian & Narelle for me ( Bevan from Grafton, they'll remember from when i went up with Theo).
-
No problems mate, will do!!
Ruskin, that would be great!

Here are the photos my brother took of the ground with noone there, I think it was around 07. Anyway as others have said it is a really nice place to camp. One thing I really love is there is no mobile coverage in the grounds even with a telstra "country phone", as it is in a valley, although you do not need to go far out of the property to get coverage if needed for an emergency.

Well swaggers, sandy creek DONE!! And loved every minute of it!!!
Brian is a champ and a very welcoming person! Told me all about the place and said if I needed anything at all to give him a shout! Just watch out for the guard dog, man is he mean!!
Got to set the CT up a different way, without the awning and only the tarp. Spent 4 nights there with the last night being a wet one. Which gave me and the misso a chance to make sure we were prepared for it and it all worked out well. Had the little starvys for the last 2 nights and they loved it.
Big thanks to Brian and Narelle for their brilliant hospitality!! Will DEFINATELY be going back! Pics to follow people.
