Title: G'day!
Post by: Lisan on December 31, 2012, 01:37:39 PM
We're family, mum dad and 3 kids under 8 from Blue Mountains nsw.  Planning our big trip around Australia and looking for the right camper or caravan for us. Pretty overwhelmed at the moment with all the choices! We look forward to chatting and getting advice and sharing our experiences!

Welcome to the zoo crew!

Plenty of opinions around here. Ask away, we've all been in the same boat sometime.

Welcome aboard guys, you live in a nice neck of the woods. We live in Bathurst and have just been camping in the Kanimbla Valley for a few days.

If we can help with anything let us know.

Regards

Jas

Thanks for the friendly replies so far..... So many questions for you all. Do we go camper or caravan? Looking at Goldstream  at the moment, does anyone have any opinions about this brand for some light off road, camper and or caravan?

Welcome to the tribe Lisa.  Plenty of helpful advice on here.  Can't offer an opinion on the Goldstream.  Have you tried a search of the forum?  We are a family of four (two teenagers) and are happy with our Customline CT.  Plenty of room in our 12' tent for us all.  Look forward to reading of your adventures.

BTW - plenty of makes to choose from http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=1231.0;topicseen (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=1231.0;topicseen)

Happy camping

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the friendliest place on the web, just tread carefully around the electrical section :D

Are you looking at lots of overnight stays, or setting up a base camp and exploring the area from there?

We went with a hard floor camper trailer as it suits us (at this stage we have 1 12 yo with us) but when it is only the two of us we won't have tonnes of wasted space.

Welcome to the Forum, if you can give a bit more info of what type of camping you do the tow vehicle and where you want to get to on your trip it may help. As you have found there are many differrent campers available for different setups. We run a soft floor as it suits our young family and set up and stay for a while stay, if you are on the move every day and have no kids a hard floor is the way to go. Looking at the 3 young kids you have a soft floor would be my advice with a walkup area for some extra room.

Good luck with the decision and ask away

Yes, as a wind up GS owner I would steer away from this style of CT for "on the move" style camping such as around OZ. They are more suited to extended stays in one spot. The more expensive soft floor trailers pack up easier, or you could go a hard floor with one of those 1min quick set up tents for the kids. Money no object that's what I would choose. But then that's very rarely the case is it? Have fun and make sure you post up what you get, and more importantly the places you get to.
