Hey all
I am typing this with my jaw on the floor.
My wife asked me what I would like for xmas. A couple of books from either of these two authors please. (both modern philosophers)
When I get home wifey grabs me -
"What kind of filth did you want me to buy you?"
"Please explain?"
So heres the story.
Off she goes to the local newsagent in a major town near hobart. The newsagency has an ABC Shop attached to it and she walks up to the counter and asks the two ladies could she have a book by (states names) please. "I dont think we sell them but lets have a look"
They all check out the non fiction area and no books. All three head back to the computer and the two ladies type in the names. Whispers back and forth, shocked looks and shaking of heads.
"We do not sell THOSE books here."
"Can I order them."
More whispers - "No, we dont sell that type of book here. Thank you" ???
Now the books were not pornography, how to be a terrorist or how to sleep with your sister to get an extra head.
Can you guess the authors?

20 questions eh?
Modern Philosophers, 19 & 20 century? European?

I would classify Hunter S Thomson as a contemporary philosopher.
When he took his own life at the age of 67., As per his wishes, his ashes were fired out of a cannon in a ceremony funded by his friend, Johnny Depp, and attended by a host of friends including Senator John Kerry and the actor Jack Nicholson. Hari Kunzru wrote that, "the true voice of Thompson is revealed to be that of American moralist ... one who often makes himself ugly to expose the ugliness he sees around him.".
The cannon was placed atop a 153-foot (47 m) tower of his own design, in the shape of a double-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button originally used in Hunter S. Thompson's 1970 campaign for sheriff of Aspen, Colorado. Red, white, blue, and green fireworks were launched along with his ashes.

I was thinking along the lines of the authors "play" and "pent" but that was thinking outside the square ;D

Are you sure you hadnt walked into a Christian Bookshop by mistake?
I find that hard to believe. Hunter S Thomson would be on the prohibited list as well then.
-
Nope. Definitely just a normal old abc bookshop. It is 1812 isn't it ;D
-
Wow - what year is it??
Dawkin's is always a good read. He's good to watch when he debates too, though he can get a bit militant at times. Sometimes it's hard to blame him ;D
Have a read of /r/atheism (http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/) - it's always amusing.
-
It really wasnt the theological debate i was interested as dawkins has done some amazing stuff with evolution. His book the greatest show on earth was fantastic.
Sam Harris is really good to listen to as well and has done some interesting stuff on 'free will'
It's a weird world. :D
