Abc country hour had an article about diesel shortages yesterday and this morning metro melbourne news has the same. Limited supplies to western VIC affecting wheat harvest and they worry for tourists over Xmas.
Looks like I'm heading north east then :))

Not just western Victoria now.
2 out of three servo's in Benalla are out. Other one low.
DSE have hired fuel trailers to have a back up.
"Probably a week until next deluvery"
Bendigo also:

Sounds like a good excuse to me to up the ****in price.. oh hang on, its the holidays in a few weeks... *SHOCK*
-
I put in 100l from a BP today. Just to make sure I had a backup :). At $1.46. Which is about right for metro Melbourne prices over the last 4 weeks. Though now shell have 8 cent off vouchers Its a lot of money :(.

petrogas delivery today ran dry no more at depo

So what's the real reason behind the shortage?
What are the production issues they speak of?
Surely they don't have just one refinery in Vic?
Why don't they just get it trucked in from out of state?
Since it's one of the by-products of unleaded production, will there be unleaded shortages?
So many question still unanswered by those reports.

Corio shell plant had a fault last week. http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2012/12/06/356143_news.html this has stopped production and reduced the stores?

It's an excuse to raise the price. It goes like this.
" We are running low on diesel, so we better put the price up 50c a litre, because then we will have enough, then after new year we will drop it 20c and the dumb pilgrims will never know we are ripping them off. Excellent Smithers excellent.

Panic buying has hit Melbourne, on the way to work this morning four stations were already empty. I found one and filled up to the brim plus the Gerry just in case

Good idea Speewa, but I was wondering where I would mount the brake controller on the bike so that the Omeo pulls up at each set of lights >:D

Think of the travel time savings as you only get to the end of the driveway & set up on the nature strip as you will be buggered by then

And the headers on the farm :)) gotta harvest that wheat. I'm off to the shops to buy some old chip oil.

Some serious mega litres are heading from Sydney to Vic and this has been happening for the last week, being Christmas there is allways some kind of a screw up in the fuel supply industry >:D
If you think it is bad now just wait untill they start to import the majority of fuels from places like Indonesia ???
Closing our own refineries is not a very good idea IMO

well over 50% of our deisel does come from Indonesia/overseas. We have to blend in the imported stuff with ours to get our production sulphur levels down to acceptable standards.
The mix of local/imported fuel is now something like 40/60, and increasing all the time.
-
Caltex Sydney make 175000L per hour and another 90000L of jet fuel per hour. Shell Geelong would be around the same so when the a unit stops working its make for a quick shortage and import fuel takes months to organise.

Between work in Springvale and home in mt Waverley on the long way home. I passed 10 servos looking for diesel in the work car. All out :(
-
It has hit eastern south aus today as well.
Mate of mine runs a servo in riverland sa, he expected to be out by 10am this morning.
His supply company expected a delivery of 60,000l for them to supply all of their servos in sa ???
Hmmm better fill up ;D

That is about 1 B-Double load. Will not go far! Depending on the configuration of the truck, that will be 5 compartments of fuel. They only deliver full compartments, so thats 5 servo's max that can be topped up.
