Title: Independant Air Bag suspension.
Post by: Bobbus on November 17, 2012, 02:11:16 PM
Hi guys, looking at a second hand camper that is a little different but has the potential to fill a number of needs for us.  It is an Active Camper that has been built onto a purpose built trailer that has independant air bag suspension??  Anyone know what this would be like for off road use?  Thanks. Rob

Hi Rob

What brand of airbag and who built the suspension?

You will get lots of discussion on different types of suspension so you may pick up some pointers from other threads.  I try to keep out of these discussions myself.

Why not hook it up to your vehicle with the owner and take it for a good run on some dirt roads.  Best way to tell how it handles.  Check the way the tyres are wearing.  This is a good indicator of how it travels.

Hi Rob
Welcome to Myswag.
I'm currently running independent suspension with airbags built by Vehicle Components.
It's excellent offroad and it's seen some of the worst roads in Aus. Make sure it's got some way of adjustment on the pivot mounting bolts.
Single shocks are adequate but if it has twin shocks that would be better.
Airbags are good for setting up camp on slightly sloping ground as you can let the air out to level your camper.
