Title: Wild Weekend Predicted for Brisbane ... surrounds ...
Post by: Kit_e_kat9 on November 16, 2012, 06:52:41 PM

Hey BrisVegas and surrounds Swaggers,

If you've seen the weather report we are in for a Wild Weekend of Weather ... especially Saturday / Sunday.  Clean out your gutters asap and strap down anything in the yard, ensure the CT and tow vehicle is secured and out of harms way.  If you are camping ... good luck!

Thanks Kit_e I hadnt realised the urgency to clean up my junk in the grg from last week's trip so i can fit the second car in. Just checked the synoptic chart and it doesn't look good.

Guess that also cancels kitesurfing on Sunday. I don't like the idea of being a very long lightning rod.

BTW- what sort of lightning bolts do they consider non-"dangerous" :)

Okay so that first storm hit me about 1030.   I'm a east of Sunnybank so didn't get the worst of it. Lots of lightning (the non-dangerous kind I guess) but we only got about 10mm in all  :-[ It was windy and a few of those bolts hit right near home.  Poor Jack hates thunder so he's just come out from under the bed ... I was filming some of it.  No hail at all.

I hope those north of me enjoyed it.

Glad I got the mowing finished about 1000 ... with any luck the gaps will fill in soon and I won't be mowing a dust bowl!  Almost need to wear a mask or something.  So now it's all over I'm off to battle the shoppers at Garden City.  Alas ... I don't like busy large shopping centres at the best of times ... but the bra had a blow out last week and DJ's do fittings.

Loving these Storms!  Bring Them On!!!!

2nd round of storms is coming through out the back of Oakey right now. it's a big line of storms and weather forum people are mentioning super cells and possible big rain falls could happen in places, so will be interesting to see what happens in an hour or 2's time here in Brisbane.

It pisses me to no end when I see people on facebook and in comments to news articles abusing the BOM because "they weren't advised until just minutes before the storm hit" that severe weather was on the way.

i thought the radio stations were talking up the threat of tornados the other day, but reading weatherzone forum the current conditons pose a real prospect it could happen somewhere. apparently the conditions they are seeing are the same as what tornado chasers in the U.S look for when they go chasing  :o :o they aren't saying it will happen though, just saying it's the right conditions for it to possibly happen.
watched the news reports before and the City / Valley / Bowen Hills  area certainly copped it earlier today, plenty of cars written off and heaps of trees being cut up. reports on weather forum have big hail falling out around Oakey area before aswell with heaps of vehicles being damaged, looks like being a costly weekend for the insurance companies this weekend.

not much happening here at my place tonight, plenty of cloud lightning and some light rain, but we seem to be missing any bad stuff for now. have seen some great pics and video footage on weatherzone forum and higgins storm chaser link so far, reckon tomorrow they'll have some cracking pics on the sites by the sounds of their posts. already seen a couple of pics, but most people were out and about chasing the storms and couldn't post pics on the run.
got to feel for a couple of guys from work at the moment, they went camping with their girlfriends on Teewah Beach for the weekend. i've sent messages to them to try and warn them what's coming, but i know phone reception there is rubbish so they may be unaware they are about to get very wet....lol

started bucketing down here about 10 - 15 minutes ago, reckon swift water rescue will get some call outs tonight with the amount of rain falling around some parts unfortunately. has been fairly sedate here up until about 10 -15 minutes ago, but now the yard is covered in water and it's running off into the gutter quickly.
tomorrow mornings news will be an interesting watch i reckon, is pretty wide spread and damage occurred from Northern NSW to Brisbane and out West of here also. was reading earlier that Uni of Qld at Gatton got 70mm in an hour and a half, and Lake Manchester (which is out Ipswich way i think from memory?) got 62mm in an hour, i reckon that'll possibly cause some flash flooding in some areas.

PMSL at the size...lol
even at 110mm that's huge hail, i heard softball sized mentioned in reports yesterday and thought B.S..... you wouldn't want to get hit by that, imagine the damage to vehicles and the like they would have copped also.
reading weather forum this morning and possibly more storms again this morning, i just hear a rumble of thunder right now as i type so will be interesting to see how the day pans out today.

we are not far from Archerfield and got practically no hail, you could hear tiny bits hitting the roof in the rain falling, but we got nothing really. have read on weatherzone of  2- 5cm hail falling in many areas to the West of us (Archerfield, Collingwood Park etc).

Strange how Brisbane got smashed yet Moreton had only a few drops and little wind on the Friday Night, Saturday was pritty clear for the most part till Night fell then we only got I'd say 5-10mm and not alot of wind maybe 15-20kts but I was pritty well sheltered, only issue was it was still drizzling into Sunday morning when we packed up camp AGAIN!!!!

The suburb of middle park in Brisbane got smashed pretty bad. On a flight up there this evening. It appears the main damage is wind related and focused around 5-6 suburbs around that middle park area. Country areas appear to have held up well.

Rain guage says another 3mm yesterday.  I wasn't sure if it could hold that much but seems it can!   ;D  I'm at Springwood (give or take a suburb) and we had particular issues with leaves being blown all about.  Gonna take me ages to clean them all out of my yard!   ???

Here's a timelapse i took yesterday afternoon at sunset near Boonah. This shows the storm which hit Brisbane last night (sunday) being created. The camera is facing south west so Brisbane is behind the camera, the storm actually comes towards the camera but you can see the low level clouds/moisture being sucked back west into the storm before it gathers pace and heads into Brisbane. It's about 30 minutes compressed into 36 seconds.  http://youtu.be/q0X-uUf1UrQ (http://youtu.be/q0X-uUf1UrQ)
