Good Afternoon All,
The kids and I are going to head up north to Sandy Cape near Jurien Bay for the weekend of 23-25th November if anyone is interested in going us.
See you out there.

We're a definite possibility depending on the other half's work. Will let you know for sure.
If we come, will be 2A + dog.

Well that will make my son happy! He had to leave his precious dog behind in NSW when we moved here. He misses her more than anything else. Can't have another in a rental.
Hope to see you there. Would be great to meet some new swaggers.

sounds good. i was planning to go up the weekend after with some friends but may come up with the swag, maybe the CT :)
-
By coincidence, my brood and another family will be up there on the same weekend (getting there Thursday evening). We'll be four adults and six kids aged between 2 - 10.
Keep an eye out for a KK being towed by a Prado and a Trak Shak being towed by a Patrol.
Hopefully see you up there

Hi George
We have seen quads there - I dont know if they are legally permitted or not. There are a few bays to explore and plenty of tracks. Please be careful as there are many blind corners.
There is a "formal" campground area with a site caretaker, quite a few trees and some drop dunnies. BYO water and everything.
The area is managed by the Shire of Dandaragan (office is in Jurien) so you could always phone and ask them.
Make sure you are up with the local fishing rules too as some of the area is a sanctuary zone. And with the new marine parks legislated today, there may be some new rules too.

Ok we will give the quads a miss and try some fishing instead should be there by 2pm Saturday
Looking foward to it

Hi Stozz,
I have read about it and was ready to take everything. What I read said it gets busy. How much room is there? If we arrive about 7 on Friday night will we be right? Also, is it sign posted from the Highway?
Thanks for the info.

Hiya
It is a pretty popular spot, particularly in summer.
You drive north through Jurien then there is one small sign at the turn off on the main road about 15km north of town. It's a gravel road (and sometimes badly corrugated - may need to lower your tyre pressure). You go about 3km and past the sand mine turn off. You will come to a info board. This is where you ca pay your camp fees or you can pay the camp caretaker when you get to the camp. Follow the same gravel road about another 1-2km and you can't miss the campground. It's spread out over two main areas.
You might find getting there at 7pm you won't have much choice for sites so would be wise to not be fussy and take the first one available. The caretaker usually has a sign in front of their site, just make sure you see him in the morning.
Here is a link to a map and some basic info: http://www.dandaragan.wa.gov.au/health_building_townplanning_ranger/rangerservices/code/file/at_download (http://www.dandaragan.wa.gov.au/health_building_townplanning_ranger/rangerservices/code/file/at_download)

And there are a few spots a bit south near the island. I'm not sure if it's classed as Sandy cape tho and I don't know if the caretaker looks after this area. I've seen people camped right on the beach.
We went for a day trip last easter and the beach was busier than Scarborough beach..
-
We have camped north of the main camp, much better and quieter.
And no caretaker.
-
Go north it's a bit better
-
Go north it's a bit better
OK,
When you say North is that into the campsite and then through it in a northerly direction or is there a different entrance?
J
-
There is another entry point, where you will miss the rocky bit.
After a few 100 meters there is a entry road to your left, I will see if I have the GS coordinates for you.
-
It is about 1 km north of the normal entry point, it is shown on google maps.
It doesn't really go through the sand dunes at all anymore. It is just touching the edge of it now.
-
So who is going and when?
We should be there by 2pm Saturday and can we be on ch15 on the cb so we can find each other.
George

We are going. Leaving Perth at 3.30 on Friday. Should be there before 7pm. White 80 series, driven my Mum. Cub camper, driven by the 15 year old who knows everything. Looking forward to it!
See you out there.

Well we had hail go through here this evening so hopefully you had better weather up there... But looking at the weather radar it looks like you are getting a bit of weather action.
Hopefully you still had a good time and didn't get too wet.
-
We had some pretty wild weather, everyone (except us) had to put their awnings away so they didn't blow away. During the day the weather was beautiful, we played a good game of beach cricket with coffs camping and crew while some of the kids dug deep holes in the sand. All in all a fab spot and great company we will definitely go there another time and hopefully catch up with the other guys again.
-
Wow! We had a great weekend. The weather was kind to us. The storm came in late on Saturday and the whole place was sparkling clean on Sunday! (But it doesn't rain in WA, so maybe I dreamt it???). The beach was beautiful, the cricket game almost traversed the length of the beach and the sea lions even came to visit.
Cant wait to go back. Thanks for the company fellow Swaggers!
Because :worthles: heres a few ...

Sound like you had a great time there! How busy was the campsite? I'm going up this Friday....
-
It was busy. But it wasnt guy rope to guy rope. The "camp site closed" sign was up when we turned off the highway but we went in anyway. As you can see we scored a great spot! When we left yesterday there was almost no one. The sign was still up! Ignore the sign ...
It was windy all weekend but the sites closer to the dunes were better than those set back a bit. The dunes give you good protection. And the sites aren't as sandy closer to the dunes (go figure??).
The toilets were quite offensive smelling (and I am a nurse so I have smelt it all). Take some essential oil for the hanky to sniff when you go.
Enjoy. We will be going back.
