Here's the thing. I hate eating off Melamine plates. Anyone here have Corelle dinnerware in their CT and how does it hold up? What about packing it. I'm thinking of getting something like this >

There's only the two of us, so don't need too many plates/bowls.
I also figure I can place a piece of felt between plates before they go into these.

We have Corelle, get it on special at big W. It holds up great, bounces well and is so much better than the old plastic and melamine stuff we had. Ours bowls travel stacked direct on each other and the plates against each other in a bag rack (camprite kitchen). Prior to the camprite they lived in a drawer on top of each other and travelled fine.
Another point, if you buy from the big W singles range (rather than sets) you can go grab another when ones goes missing like one of our bowls has :cheers: Also we only got bowls and plates as the rest is excess baggage we don't need.

Great stuff, light weight, relatively unbreakable though normal use/travel/accidentally dropping etc
like eating off proper crockery, with the camping benefits.
Worth the money.
steared clear of plastic, enamel, and aluminum. Its still camping, by with quality. The covers as per your link not required. Tough as.

Agree with burnsy,
we got individual as we are only two and some things we wanted more of, some less. Made up to suit our requirements with how we eat/prepare dinner etc.
Ours just stack in our kitchen box on top one another. Never any issues.
I'll never got back to plastic or Ali/enamel etc.

x 2 - the mugs suck though as they aren't real corelle wear. For those a bit of foam with cut outs to ensure they don't clang together solves the issue. I put non-slip fabric between my plates and they are always where I've left them no matter how bumpy the road. It can be washed with the dishes if you require.

Kit_e, Thanks. I thought that might be the case with the mugs, so I won't bother getting. I have 4 china coffee mugs stored in a plastic box with lid that I bought from Ikea. Perfect fit, they don't move about, no breakages so far and they're been on a few camping trips.

Yep the dodgy mugs were another reason we avoided the set. We gernerally use our contigo car mugs or sometimes throw in a few cheap ceramic ones.

You can still purchase sets with the original corelle cups (maybe BigW ... you'd have to look). GreatMate (co-worker and Swagger) has the original corelle cups and he says they are great. I did consider purchasing them seperately, but I do like the mugs even if they aren't travel proof. One has an edge chip already after 2 years - before the foam though.
We do love the Corelle dinner set though. Don't get me wrong. It's the most unbreakable part of our pantry kit to date. I'm told you can use "them as footballs and they won't suffer" ... although I'd wash them before eating off them if that were the case ;D

Cups are like chairs, find on to suit you that you like and its yours to use and look after.
If I'm having coffee, I like a good dose of coffee, esp in mornings, so Ihave a big mug.
My wife is more dainty to she has a more feminine one, I have my mug and she has hers. No set is ever going to suit differing tastes or requirements.
Find one you like and look after it.

I like the old style enamel stuff. It's tough (although it does chip) and you can keep stuff hot on it

I was like you and hated melamine, however I found the 'Smash' brand of melamine is great. the plate sizes are more similar to what you would use at home rather than trying to eat off a side plate size like most of the "Camping" sets are like.
They are light and unbreakable! We like them any who!!

Another vote for Corelle. As there is only the 2 of us we have 3 dinner plates, 2 smaller ones and 2 bowls. There are stacked on top of each other in a drawer with that non slip stuff between each size. Nothing moves. The cups are packed between stubbie coolers and wine glasses and port glasses in stubbie coolers. I never run short of a stubbie cooler for my beer. :laugh: :cheers:

Yep corelle been with us for near on 20 years used in the tent before the ct never broke anything

Corelle is the way to go, we take a microwave and lots of frozen dinners pre-prepared at home and you can't put melamine in the microwave.

We have the Smash brand of melamine in the CT and find it almost as good as the Corelle we use daily at home. Both available from Big W.
Word of warning with the Corelle and personal experience talking here. If you drop it and it smashes on the floor (oh yes it does smash) then you have a major clean up to look forward to. It shatters into a million little shards of amazingly sharp pieces. You will need a vacuum to get it all up. Sweeping doesn't cut it.

I have to agree. To me, tea only tastes great out of Bone China ;D ;D
