Hi all,
I am trying to work out where to run my wiring from the hitch, back to under the trailer. I have capped the ends of the drawbar and obviously don't want to drill holes in it as it will rust out with everything that gets in. I have thought about conduit along the inner edge of the drawbar but it may get in the road of the handbrake cable and also limit me using u-bolts to secure items like stone guards. So what options do I have? Any help, and pictures of what you have would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

mine goes into a 15mm hole in the drawbar channel .. runs through that to rear lights and brakes .

Thanks Mandrake. This is what I would like to do but my trailer is not hot dip galvanized so I worry that where the welds are on the inside surface of the drawbar, where I can't get to, will rust from the inside out. That, and for extra strength is why I capped the drawbar at both ends to seal it. Was kind of hoping there would be some other options. ???

Hi Grafy
If you go to your local electrical wholesaler and purchase two compression cable glands (as per pic) then drill and tap a 20mm hole at each end of your chasis where you want the cable to enter and exit, then pass the cable through each gland once screwed into chasis and then tighten the outer locknut as this will compress a rubber ring onto the cable and should give you a watertight seal at both ends.

Hey Robbo, they look like a good thing. Wonder how well they seal. Has anybody used these with success?

If the cable you are using is round and you put a squeeze of silicon in they are as good as watertight. I have seen them used in abbatoirs where everything gets hosed down with high pressure steam/water so they must be able to seal well.

One Idea I have used for internal rust was what I used on my camper front rack after I made it.
I blocked one end and flooded it with fish oil. After half an hour I drained out the excess and filled the next tube. :cup:

Sorry, I miss read the title. thought it read "Where do you run your wives?" ;D

My last camper, I ran it through some conduit - had to, pup kept chewing the wiring >:( Should be able to make sure it's out of the way of the brake cable.
Now have a Cub. Drawbar ends are capped like yours, with a hole in so the wire can go through. Has coon around the hole to stop water & dirt going in
