Title: Oh, the shame...
Post by: maurerless on September 18, 2012, 03:58:00 PM
Well, I'm ashamed to admit that I'm selling the camper (http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=25054.msg386929#msg386929).  :-[

After much deliberation and discussion with my better half I've gone and put down a deposit on a... a.... C.... c....

...I can't say it here... it's the "C" word.  :-[

The convenience of a bathroom and toilet, no canvas and less setup time was too tempting for us. We've gone to the dark side.  >:D  Seems that the offroad adventures will be a pipe dream, but we will have semi-offroad capacity. It's the price I pay to still get to travel this amazing country of ours.

Maybe free setups rather than caravan parks will be on the cards. But the blacktop will more than likely get us to most places. Time will tell if it's the right decision.

In a thread a while ago I made the mistake of saying we were thinking of upgrading to a caravan.  And rightly so I was soon corrected on my choice of words.  We have decided to wait for a few more years and then we will down grade to a caravan with a shower and toilet.

It seems 3 things are certain in life,  death, taxes and caravan.  ;D

I can see boths sides of the discussion, but my change is in the interests of keeping domestic harmony.

My wife readily admints that she has never really been a camping type of person. It's a great testimony to her that she gave it a go. (And let me get the camper in the first place)  We've been through a few storms and the canvas surrounds aren't really what my wife would describe as enjoyable. Mainly, she doesn't like the movement in the wind (which is different from my wind movements)  >:D and the fact it always seems to happen at night.

I just want to get out travelling, so the van (and van parks) is the way to go for now. We might go back, but the call to the dark side is strong.

Its much better to be seeing our great land in a caravan than sitting at home.

I hesitated at the CV bit, but hey, getting out there in just about anything is better than sitting at home.

Anything includes:  tent, CT, CV, swag, back of the ute, nude, glamper, motel room, onsite CV, cabin, even completely lost is better than being at home.

I have to agree with Kit-e, getting out and about is more important than your choice of accommodation. Enjoy your caravan and its comforts.

Hi,
Yep! Its is all about getting out and about, and the tools you need to do it.
In my teens a pair of boots and hiking gear was all I needed for the 4 seasons, now it is much easier on the bones in our little plastic shell with the heater running on cold nights.
cheers

Our Quantum has shower, toilet, AND allows us to go almost anywhere.  True off roader, as is it's stable mate the Matrix.

If it makes you feel any better, nearly half the people on here seem to have a jayco or similar (myself included) and in reality they are more "collapseable caravan" than camper trailer due to the extra width, weight and style of construction. As noted by others, as long as it gets you outdoors who cares.

Hi Mauerless,
We recently purchased a Jayco Freedom Pop Top even though we both love our campertrailer and had lots of great adventures. Ours reason was more age related but the home comforts sure are great.
We rarely stayed in caravan parks in the camper and are hoping to still stay in some of our favourite places, with an occaisonal stay in a CP. We`re leaving on monday for a four week trip around The Snowys and into Vic, will just stay more on the blacktop than before.

Good luck with your search for a van, do you have a particular one in mind?
ps. I class getting a van as a sideways move, can`t see it`s moving up or down as it`s just doing what suits at the time to keep us out seeing our great country.

Cheers, Robyn

We are waiting for our 1st camper to arrive but have already picked our offroad caravan for when we get too old for the canvas set up.

The only shame as many have mentioned is not getting out there!!!!!!!!

Hi Robyn,
We've gone for a Windsor Genesis. Not the most offroad capable of vans, but certainly one with the comforts of home-away-from-home...

Speewa You don't know what that means to us.  :D Secretly (just between you and I) I'm changing to a van to get a bigger fridge to cater for the enhanced cool refreshments capacity  >:D

Hi Maurerless,
A Windsor Genesis is definately a move up  We went through one at a recent caravan show and were very impressed with the layout and finish, you won`t know yourselves :cup:

I`m sure you and your wife will have wonderful adventures in your new van. It`s a bit different having to think about ball weights, payloads and weight distribution hitches. ??? I see on the caravanners forum these things are the equivalent of the electrical section here. They do have some good information in the RV Friendly Towns, Regions and Camps section, about places to stay.

Enjoy yourselves and have fun,
  Cheers, Robyn.

my wife and I have been discussing selling our Jayco Swan OB and buying a pop top after our recent trip.... our biggest problem is that we can not keep it on our driveway as it is steep but we may be able to get one in the garage as it is higher than normal but i wont be paying for storage....so that might decide what we do..... the dilemma.... can't help to do some research ???
