It was one of them easy jobs that will take 10 mins. Thought I'll remove the swing away, fix the broken bolt on the right of the stubb that usually locks the arm in place when open, then put the bracket back on the door and drive to Werribee... Well, Ummm... Computer says NO... (http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd234/cremo1/Smileys/pig.jpg)
It appears as though the orange dust cover in top photo that sits under the bottom bearing doesnt allow water that gets in to get out ..... = FAIL...
Just too add injury to insult, the small part circled in orange as I was smashing that part off the bearing off the stubb, that broke off, chiped the rear door and came back and hit me in the cheek about 2inches from my eye... (http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd234/cremo1/Smileys/sadone.gif)

So all in all, it was an unproductive day!
If you have had a swing arm on for more than 12 mths might be worth checking.. mines been on for 3-4yrs and never taken it off...

What are you doing messing around with that.........you have wiring to do!!
Looks like the top bearing was supporting it all well enough, probably helps that the arm sits in a keeper when closed so the bearing does not have a lot of additional forces acting on it all the time.

So I had a though today, wondering if you can run the spare on the door with the 285 on a GU with the Kaymar since its differnet shape to factory bar.
Called Kaymar and they said yes, with the door spacer. So thats good

It was one of them easy jobs that will take 10 mins. Thought I'll remove the swing away, fix the broken bolt on the right of the stubb that usually locks the arm in place when open, then put the bracket back on the door and drive to Werribee... Well, Ummm... Computer says NO...
It appears as though the orange dust cover in top photo that sits under the bottom bearing doesnt allow water that gets in to get out ..... = FAIL...
Just too add injury to insult, the small part circled in orange as I was smashing that part off the bearing off the stubb, that broke off, chiped the rear door and came back and hit me in the cheek about 2inches from my eye...
Then I remembered the time, and ARB was closed by them to go buy the door spacer..
Thought I'd go work on the trailer etc, then this joint was rooted, and couldnt search
So all in all, it was an unproductive day!

Not yet, gotta find bearing #. Didnt feel like asking Kaymar, compared to CBC bearings I'd need to sell the house.
I do have the otherside swing at home with bearing in it,I'll look tonight.

The early bars use Holden stubs (LM bearings), and later bars use Ford stubs (SL bearings).

The bearing has NO markings on it at all.. and the seals dont either :(

I thought you might ask that...... ;D
I dunno. Maybe call Kaymar. Mine was made in April 2000. It has Holden stubs. I picked up a LH wheel carrier, and it came with SL bearings. The LM and SL bearing cups have the same OD, so it wasn't an issue. I just fitted LM bearings and put it on the car.
Ford stub axles are roughly 22mm (7/8") OD for the small bearing, 35mm (1 3/8") OD for the large bearing, 44mm (1 3/4") for the seal.
Holden stubs are smaller at both bearing points, and 38mm (1 1/2") for the seal.
(....disclaimer.......all sizes measured with a steel rule, so are approx....)
If yours has Ford stubs, I've got plenty of SL bearings and seals. The bearings are used, but are fine for wheel carrier use, and the seals are new......... (I changed the bearings on the camper last weekend.......)

Dragging this one up from the archives...
When packing up at the snow the other day I noticed the Kaymar swingaway wheel carrier had a bit of a wobble. It swung ok, but felt like the castle nut needed tightening.
Today I pulled it apart - and was greeted by a mess of old rank grease and water. The top bearing was non-existent - similar to Bird's photo - just the internal part of the carrier. The needle bearings went flying and there was no outer cage. The bottom bearing was intact but seized.
I'm not sure how the water gets in. I can only guess that it is too much blast in the water blaster at the local carwash.
I've replaced the bearings with a set from SuperCheap - I used the marine kit as it had an extra seal in it. Time will tell if it works. Once all back together it works like a new one.
The carrier is a 2004 vintage on a 100 Series IFS. I found the Ford bearings to be the right size. (If anyone wants a Holden set let me know...I guessed wrong! ???)

Time check mine then, thanks for the reminder. I should have done this over the weekend as I'm getting the rear bar re-sprayed today after a low speed collision recently.
