Title: Bike Racks for Jayco Eagle
Post by: Memem284 on September 14, 2012, 08:53:15 PM
We want to take our bikes with us when we go camping and are trying to work out the best way to carry them. We don't want to put them on the roof racks on the car (Pathfinder 2011) cos the racks are set up for our kayaks and we don't have racks on the camper.

We are thinking about the fold down type of bike racks that can fit on your tow ball with the camper but think that there won't be enough room over the draw bar with the 2 mountain bikes when we need to do tight turns etc. Like this one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tow-Bar-Bike (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tow-Bar-Bike) ... 3f1c5763f9

Or we can put a bike rack on the back of the camper but we have heard a lot of nightmare stories of racks rattling off.

Any good ideas? I'll put up a photo of the draw bar tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!

I mounted one of the towbar ones to the rear bar on the eagle works ok, just need to remove it before setting up.
Haven't traveled any rough roads like that so can't comment on vibrations etc

There is a small post that the spare tyre mounts to, I just fitted it to that.

I fitted a purpose built rack to the rear bumper mounts on my 2011 Swan - if I take the front wheels off the 2 adult bikes, then they do not interfere with the slide of the rear bed so I can leave the bikes in place if only stopping for 1 night.  The only issue is that I had to remove the spare wheel so this travels in the boot of the car.
I have posted photos of the set up somewhere on this site and will try to attach a couple again, but my PC is not doing what I want it to do...!
So far, no problems of the bikes moving - but I would be cautious of fitting a standard rack to the rear that would allow the bikes to 'bounce'.

You can get bike racks fitted on the roof of your Jayco, you will need the jayco roof racks and bike racks.

I got a quote from Jayco for this to be put on my Swan, the cost for the roof racks and two bike racks almost $800.00 fitted.

Happy travels
