Title: Damp rot - Wood window Frames (non camper)

Lookin at dads place the other day at the window frames, and theres a bit of damp rot in the frames.

Is there anything you can do to fix this without replacing the something like 12ftx10ft windows??
The problem is they rarely get much sun :(

You can remove the bit that's rotted and use a product to seal things everywhere you cut I believe.  I'm no carpenter though ... just a sheila that's seen it done before.

Edit:  Oh and replace it with more timber of course.

dig out the rot and fill with builder's bog.
Can be sanded, painted etc

I'm pretty sure you can get a treatment that turn's the wood hard again, then you use the
builders bog to repair the missing bits. I'd be heading to a good paint shop and asking, not
sure if the big green shed would have it.

Hi lost
I repair windows all the time,normally the rot is deeper in the frames then what you see, a good repair can last some time but generally you may just be delaying the replacement time,if the rot is bad then scarfing in new timber is the go,small stuff can be bogged but does crack open after a while.

To start what timber is it ?

And it all depends how far gone the rot is. If its only small, cut it out and bog it up, and then paint it.
But if your going to have to cut that much out that it will weaken the window, just replace it.

You get to a point where it is better to replace the window. Get a cedar one, oil based primer and 2 coats of exterior paint. And keep the paint up to it.
