TWO campers have been robbed with a gun and tree branch as they slept by a road in a remote NSW town.
A 51-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth had set up swags in Bourke about 11.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday.
They were woken by five men two hours later.
One was armed with a knife, another with a tree branch, and a third said he had a firearm, NSW police said.
The men punched and kicked the man, and hit him with a tree branch, before taking his car keys and wallet.
They then fled Anson Street in the victim's Toyota Hilux.
The injured man was taken to Bourke Hospital to be treated for minor cuts and bruising to his head.
His ute was found burnt out in nearby Alice Edward Village shortly after 2am.
Police are seeking five men described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged between 20 and 25.

Thought that that was a "No Brainer" but circumstances may have dictated that they had to...still I would have slept in the car.

Poor Buggars.
Sad isn't, you can't pull over and make camp somewhere with out having to worry about this kinda crap happening.
Sure a bit of common sense, Oh No, those words, should of been shown.
unfortunately I don't believe they will catch their attackers.

And I was going out that way in a few weeks, had planned to stay at Kidmans though.

G'day Bushman,
We stay at Kidmans last year about this time, a top spot.

gee, thats a shock... ****ing scum.
When caught, they should be found burnt out in a back lane. Instead they are the people who nothing happens to.

Spent last Xmas at Kidmans Camp, it's a great place. No way would I camp in town, the liquor store was scary enough
-
Kidmans Camp gets my vote too great spot and clean amenities
Cheers OC

we camped there quite a few years ago, but were pre warned not to camp near town. We found a great place on the Darling river around 10km out of town.
Didn't like the town of Bourke much, it looked like a war zone with all of the shutters down the street.
