Title: count down is on for our around aus trip
Post by: Patt31 on July 26, 2012, 07:13:57 PM
Hi All,

Well just doing the final check on figures and getting the boss to agree to the 12 month leave application (has verbally agreed but actually approving the application when I lodge it may be another thing), but looks like the count is on for our 12 month trip around Aus.

Also got to get my hubbies work to agree to the 12 month lwop application and hold his job for him, but all is looking good, so looks like the green light is almost on.

Will have to do some work part of the way but what an opportunity to be able to explore our wonderful country.

Any hints from people who have recently done the big trip, will be towing our camper trailer, and have our 4 year old with us.

Cheers,
Pat

Hi Pat,

We are currently on an 8 month Oz trip and with a 4 and 2 year old. They were very used to camping beforehand and are loving being on the trip. They don't seem to even notice except that they are outside a lot. At home they have an entire room dedicated to toys. Now they only have 1 smallish box. Love it.

well we have both told our bosses our dates, I know it is still six months away (today) but that will go by so fast.

Thanks for the heads up with the bike, will put the 4 yr olds in not sure if we could get ours in or not, going to try and get a canadian canoe for on the roof as well so no room up there for our 2 bikes :(

So excited, set up a blog page today, I know jumping the gun a bit, should be real spic by the time we hit the road, now to do the list of what we need, we want, in our dreams, and tick them off as we get them.

Need to track down a new/2nd hand insert for our CF80 waeco fridge, as missing one of those plastic inserts, as will definitely need to use the freezer. Tried the waeco website no luck, ebay no luck, :( oh well might have to invent something.

Cheers,
Pat

we have given up waiting to win lotto, life is to short, may have to work part of the way around, but my hubby is really handy with a welder and handy man, so we are just going to do it :)

Some times you just have to take the plunge, (really looking forward to spending 12 months with my daughter too, so that is a big bonus too, no work, no day care )

I have/had a 80 Waeco and ever only put the one divider in. It does not go any more (the Waeco  :'() so I may be able to give you a divider. I am sure I have the second one some where, will check tomorrow and if so will send you a PM and organise to post it to you.

Chairman Mou of China said " The longest journey starts with the 1st step " Tell the boss , he wont be your boss for 12 months or so . If he is still there when you get back you may consider working for him again . Dont let him steal you dream . How did that song go Take this job & shove it , l ant  working here no more . & why 12 months theres so much to see , so little time . Have fun

I'd say try to fit your bikes on if you can. Good way to explore places especially if they're MTBs. I'm sure the kids would love going for a ride with you.

You can make one out of an old "real estate" sign.Just double it up.
Also make a lid for the freezer basket so you dont loose you cold air every time you open the lid.
Well done on the decision.

Cheers Ian.

We have 320 days to go before we leave ... not that I'm counting.  Just have a widget for it on my phone.   ;-)

I'm interested in the number of positive comments about taking bikes.  I'm not fussed on taking them but my wife is keen.

For those people who have their bikes, do you use them for more than going to the toilet?  Did you have a bike for each family member?

Our kids are 10 and 7 and their bikes are big enough for my wife and I to use as well.  Only have room for the kids bikes.

Bottom line ... should I make the room for them?
