After our most recent trip with many nights below zero It has been decided I will be installing a diesel heater in the Tambo's walkway section.
I have what "I think" are some good Ideas of how I will do it, however would be interested in seeing some pics of others units set up in either soft floor or hard floor campers.
I know a lot of the KK owners have them and have read on here of people going to install... but no pics?
Also this may be a silly question but I will ask anyway, can the units be installed vertical as apposed to horizontal?
Any Info appreciated.

I thought about a remote unit that could be put under the camper when in use and it would also be only carried during the colder months as to save room in summer

I have been thinking of something for the Omeo as well, the one thing that would worry me with it in the walkway is the noise. From research and reading on here it looks as though there is some fan and pump noise associated with the heater. I will watch with intrest and see what replies are forwarded.

Yes that is true about the noise, I have also read that you can deaden the noise quite a fair bit as well.
My plans consist of the unit being on the outside of the trailer with the vent in the walkway, but the only way I can make this happen the unit has to be mounted vertical and should be quite neat.
If it can not be mounted vertical I will more than likely fit it in the main storage compartment.

If you go ahead, make sure you put an air inlet muffler on it,will knock of most of the noise.do you have any further info on such a product Titch or links to it's installation?

i will say my Webasto is a touch noisey for my liking, but i put up with it as the warmth makes me sleep more so then the noise keeps me awake ;D ;D
i found that when i set the heat setting higher and made the unit run constantly all night, i didn't have to put up with the noise of the unit spooling up as it started after shutting down during the night, which is what woke me up, the constant noise of the air blowing wasn't as annoying to me to as the unit stopping and starting.

for me the Truma gas heater is the go, and much quieter than the diesel heater.
Deisel heater is idel for Motorhomes etc as they tap into the vehicle fuel supply

now, I have not fitted it yet but have listened to a heater with one fitted.
The air throttle noise is chalk and cheese.
Its a basic muffler,much like a flow thru hot dog muffler( they still around? )
Has a foam sleeve around the airflow,non restricted.
You could make one or try a straight thru muffler from a mower place.
Can take a few pictures of the guts if you want.

Rumpig,i have one in our hard floored KK, the blower unit is mounted at the foot of our bed and the rest on the outside behind the wheel arch area, though some of it is also in the gullwing box up front (fuel tank for example) as there is also some other gear for heating our water up in that box also.

when the unit is constantly running, the noise is similar to your cars fan inside the cabin when set on a highish setting i guess you could describe it as. when it cuts in and out if the thermostat is set at a lower heat setting, the unit spools up like a turbo does and that sound can get annoying in my books.

OK, most campers have gas bottles fitted, so why not go with the fuel you already have on tap rather than fitt an extra tank for the diesel.
for me the Truma gas heater is the go, and much quieter than the diesel heater.

Havent ruled the gas one out but my vehicle is diesel, I always have diesel on the draw bar, from my understanding the diesel is more economical than Gas, currently only have 1 x 4.5kg gas bottle.

No, leave it outside silly. In the doorway and I wouldn't leave it on all night, just to warm the CT before bed. We used to burn blocks of coal that were placed under the clay floor when I was young. Hmmmm me thinks I breathed in alot of CO. Ahhh that's where my brain cells went, all this time I thought it was the hoochy.

I thought I was the only one wanting to install a diesel heater in my soft floor. I thought of mounting one of these horizontal but with the exhaust/intake out the side of the camper trailer mounted under the bed. Then just run a hole saw through the bed floor with some ducting and job done.....
If you goto the web site for the above heater you can download the operator and installation manual. Is very detailed. These are a 3rd the price of and an esperbache or webasto!!

After reading these posts, now Im going to have to include a heater in my camper build....
That Combi 4 by Truma looks the goods....opinions...????

Got a young bloke (5 months) and we want to heat our camper when out bush. We went and tried out the camper at a caravan park and used an electric heater which was great!
Initial thought was generator and electric heater. Problem is for a half decent heater the wattage gets up quite high, and run time on the generator won't be long.
So I'm thinking diesel heater. Budget won't allow for a webasto heater but I have found these on eBay and am wondering if anyone has one/tried one and if it works well or i should save up the $$ and get the webasto one down the track.

The kit had everything needed for the installation except the fuel tank, which I used a 10 litre plastic jerry can for, cost about another $20-00
It will run on a low setting for about 4 hours on a litre of diesel fuel ;D

Just a suggestion, as it is how I made mine, and it works well.
If you make the can/tank with a breather tube that you can blow into and send the diesel up the fuel line to the pump, it will make the first priming of the pump quicker, with out the need for several start cycles to get it working every time you break the prime.

You can see the fuel tank on the side of the box and the heater is in the tool box it also heats water for showers and the sink.

I have a walk up model trailer so the switch and outlet went on the walk up wall to the bed and through a 45 degree vent
the Unit was placed on the inside storage compartment which now has been boxed in to save damage and the Inlet and Exhaust were fitted underneath the trailer with chair feet rubbers to plug when not in use.
Exhaust and intake I welded on some 45's, fuel pump was also rubber mounted
Plumbed the line into a jerry can on the draw bar which can be used for the vehicle or heater, but is always ready to go.
The Webasto heats the tent up well, is economical and nowhere near as loud as what many make out to be.
