This is my first post of a topic so bare with me please I have a Cub Daintree Towed by early model 2003 lux diesel with a trigg coupling I have changed the jockey wheel to a ratchet style so I don't have to manually push easier on my body, problem is when it comes time to hook up after rain the jockey wheel buries itself in the dirt and becomes very hard to move they are not easy to hook up I was thinking of putting something under jockey wheel for traction when I stop to camp but unsure what to use or how any suggestions please

A piece of flat timber is ideal to sit the jockey wheel on when camping on soft , sandy ground.

Yep agree with McGirr, hubby works at a floor covering place so he brings home offcuts of timber flooring, it's great as its thin but does the job, if it gets wrecked we just use a new one.

Anything that will provide a base will work

Use 2 pieces of flat timber - ply etc...when you reach the end of one, slip the other one under & continue.

Thanks for the quick response I was at Cub campers today picking it up after some repairs and Jim suggested I post here that question so yes they do take note of posts on Camping sites any more suggestions appreciated

It works on wet muddy grass at my place and on sandy spots in caravan parks up the coast.
Moves my very tubby (1400KG) Jayco glamper with ease.

Hi,
I have made up a 300mm x 300mm piece of 12mm plyboard which I have beveled the edges off and painted with several layers of clear floor sealer to keep the water out,
It will get used next week on Fraser Island to stop the jockey wheel sinking in the sand when I camp at the top of the beach with the MySwag mob that's getting ready to hit FI.
Works well in soft wet soil also, makes it easier to hook up also as it is easier to move to line up the pin.

Hi, in the past I have used 50x50 x4mm offcuts of mesh on sandy building sites to push brickies barrows on fully laden so I can't see why the mesh won't work. The weight on the jockey wheel and wheelbarrows would be similar so this should work. The mesh is not that heavy and would be easy to store on the roof rack or bottom of the camper.

just an update just returned from trip I put a large cutting board 300x300x25mm thick under the ratchet jockey wheel when I used the ratchet jockey wheel it slipped turned and went nowhere on the plastic as it was very wet however we managed to hitch up manually because of the flat surface and not mud so I am looking at painting glue on form ply and adding sand or small crushed rocks for traction I know the sand traction aids will work but they are large to carry and expensive

I concreted the back yard... no problems anymore.

I have made a few steel plates up for similar reason. They were about 50 cm x 30cm, 6mm black steel, with holes in each end for a rope handle to pick up and carry with. Can be tucked away almost anywhere and guaranteed not to break when being used for such a task.

I know this is problematic for most of us :angel: , but if you can improve the directions provided as you back up, you can get right into/under the hitch. Pushing a tonne of camper around is tough.
My suggestion is just that and no responsibility for marriage counseling will be accepted ;D.

Yep, 2X pieces of 17mm form ply about 350 square.
You can buy anti slip, kinda like rough sand paper. You find it on steps sometimes.
Just an idea.

Reversing camera...........usually can get within 5mm, and there is enough flex in the jockey wheel to get the pin in.........no more asking the missus to give you "directions".....

I use a dual wheel maco mule.
A bit expensive at $600 though, I only paid twice that for my old Dove ;D

How true I have to remind the cook which is her the left hand couple more suggestions I can try at home thanks, pushing manually is out for health reasons I will perservere let you know how I go, like the skateboard idea.Toying with putting a wireless camera in as well

We use the 30x30x19mm thick painted plywood as well. We also have a small piece of tape stuck to the inside of the back window and align that with the middle of the CT via the rear vision mirror. That and the boss directing, we can get it within cm's. No problems then.
