Do you think prices are inflated before a show so discounts appear good value?
Never seen much different with Caravans.
What have people found ,is it worth buying at a show?
cheers.

Ensure you have done your research before so you don't get in a position to purchase without knowing what you should be saving.

Technically illegal in NSW, but consumer affairs is pretty much toothless and useless so it happens.

I purchased my camper at a show in Sydney.
If some prices are inflated I can not comment but i did find you tend to get more bonus's/add ons/extras so in the end you still are a winner.
One thing i did notice is that salesmen watch possible buyers, ie where they go (and if they arent busy where they have come from) including trying to look at what other promotional items you have on your person. At a show it is a lot easier for you to walk strait back to the competitor, if they get you into their showroom/factory that can be harder.
my advice is if you are worried about inflated prices, dont buy on the first go, get your information including prices go home and research how much it costs to get the same if you bought it direct from the showroom/factory. I did just that and found the price I was quoted was recommended retail (if you like) but had all of the show bonuses added on.
Wherever or whenever you buy your camper you have to feel you are getting value for money, in the end thats all that matters.

It probably pays to do your research to know what the retailers "normal" price is on the item, prior to entering the show and comparing their "show sale" price. I do know that a common practice amongst some retailers (not just for camper trailers & caravans) is to make reference to a recommended retail price (RRP), then show an actual sale price much lower, giving the illusion the purchaser is saving X%. The usual reality is the item is never sold at the RRP but a much lower price anyway, which is usually the "sale" price that is being offered.
There's a couple of major camping / motoring retailers that regularly advertise 20-25% sales (off of RRP of course), but most items are actually no cheaper, or only slightly cheaper (5%) than what you can buy the items off the shelf any old day of the week. Good marketing ploy I guess if you don't know the pre-sale prices.

Could this be a warning to do your homework & know the answer before you ask the question ;D

I agree, probably not so inflated but RRP... we did our research of what we wanted before we went to the Brisbane show last year and knew all about the best prices.. turns out we did get a really good price on our Jayco...
