Title: Where is the best place to sell a boat?
Post by: Sicilianmama on July 09, 2012, 12:15:28 PM
So hubby has decided to sell his boat, we never use it, well about once or twice a year. Its a shame really as its a great tinny, just never seem to have the time, and now that we have the CT we would much rather be camping :D

So where would you sell it? Boat sales? Or a few of the local boat shops sell used boats on consignment but I think their cut is a fair bit.

Trynotices at thelocal Marina/wharf /boat ramp, yacht clubs/fishing clubs, ty BCF/camping stores.
Local community classifieds, notice boards at supermarkets/shopping centres.

Depends how much you want to sell it really, to how much effort you go to!

What are the best 2 days of a boat owner’s life?

The day he buys it and the day he sells it :)

Give Gumtree a go, up to 10 pictures now (used to be 4), and free. Sold my boat on there last April, it was gone in a couple of weeks. Be prepared for the bogus overseas buyer who sends you a text message asking you to communicate via email outside of Gumtree though. Probably works on an oil rig or is buying for a relative and will offer to buy site unseen and they say they will organise their own pickup on consignment. You can do one of two things, tell them to nick off, or string them along for a bit of fun.

Cheers, Marschy

Just remember that the best time to sell is just before summer as people are wanting to get out on the water and winter is a bit slow to sell. So I have been told

Trading Post has worked well for me in the past. Gumtree is ok but you'll probably get approached by a lot of scammers as it seems to be rife on that site.

Thanks guys! I hadn't even thought of a lot of those places! Okay well now I just gotta get hubby to write me out a proper description of everything, I've already taken the pics and then I can list it!

Haha that is soooooo true, considering I'm the one that bought it for him and I'll most probably be theone to sell it :D

Get a couple of kayaks on the roof of your Jayco. That was my trade off when we sold our dinghy and got a camper. They are great, you can still get out on the water without the expensive up keep.

We sold our 17' half cab because we were not using it and it was costing about $100/month to sit there with all the fees and rego/license.

We picked up a 10' pointy punt and 5hp merc outboard the same day ;D
Now the tinnie lives on top of the camper.
