Could you do me a favor and tell me the length of the center pole and put a pic up of it?

Awesome pick up mate. I had one of there tents for 10 years (Bought second hand) and sold it for more than I paid for it, they are a great bit of gear.

The centre pole is spring loaded and also height adjustable. The spring in the centre keeps the tension and allow a bit of movement and flex.

If I was you I would just buy a side pole conversion kit for $80. It comes with an A frame for the roof and two side poles. Its easy to set up and removes the pole from the centre of the tent, giving you better sleeping options.

Regards

Jas

I have the Primus version 'COI' I think there brand is, 2m x 2m, one of the originals made with eNZud canvas. It has a centre pole or side pole with an extra front awning. It really needs a new home but I can't bare to part with it.

Yep it appears so.

The southern cross one is a little different as it has a little foot on the top that sits on the plasitic disk attached to the centre of the roof. However I can't see why this one wouldn't work. (cheeper too).

Is it awkward with the center pole setup?

They are great when you have additional bodies that need some where to sleep. I regret selling mine at times.

A little harder to set up, as you have to hold the A frame in place and then slip the poles in place. It takes 30'secs longer with one person and no time with two. The bonus is you have an open tent without the centre pole in the way. Also this is where you stand etc to get changed so the pole in the middle can be a PITA. If you use a queen or double mattress the pole will be on your bed.

I know but it is a PITA to store, I was thinking I'd swap it for an Oztent or similar.

Agree mine was the extended version so was bigger still. The oz tents arn't much better, just a different shape and they wont fit in a vehicle. I was going to use one as a kids room next to my KK but they are to bulky.

Sorry mate forgot to measure it  ??? Will do that when the sun comes up  :D

It is basically a 3 piece pole, which makes it more compact when packing it up.

Great score efjay!  :cup:

We have a Southern Cross 9'. Used it for a lot of years. I agree if you are starting from scratch on buying a pole, I would probably buy a side pole kit. We have the centre pole and has never been a problem but do agree the side pole would give a little more floor layout options. I wouldn't think it would had much more weight or bulk. Only 2 poles instead of 1.

Hey mate

The pole measurements are: The two poles that slide into each other are 910mm each, and the other pole is 770mm. There is a tapered section of 70mm which the 770mm pole slides over to join the poles.

Is that clear as mud?
