Title: Cleaning up Goo?
Post by: schmik on July 01, 2012, 06:35:02 PM
No, not that sort of Goo!

What is the best solvent for cleaning off Glue/Sticky Goo... I am replacing all the seals on the trailer. It's easy enough to get all the foam/rubber strips off with a scraper but what about the left over sticky residue.

The last section i did i ended up using petrol. There must be something better.

I use Orange Power sticky spot and goo remover. It's good stuff.

De-Solv-it is another citrus based degreaser , i use it on my pushbike , safe on the rubber seals.

eucalyptus oil.

X 2 ... if it works in the house to remove labels with ease and on chewing gum ... gotta work on your sticky goo.

Citrus oil products like Desolvit work on some adhesives and is easy to clean off if you need to repaint the surface. No guarantee it will work but it's cheap and easy to obtain from supermarkets and hardware stores so it might be worth a try. I've never had paintwork damaged by it even when left overnight to "soak".

Goo off or goo remover, what ever generic name.

Well worth the bottle in the cupboard at home.

Never had an iissue using it, and takes the frustration out of cleaning.
beware solvent based or petrol based cleaners.

Acetone is a great cleaner, but it'll eat everything, get the bottle of goo off from supermarket hardware stores.

Thanks Guys and Gals.

Don't have any of that at home and probably a good thing i had run out of acetone.
