In Victoria, can be provided for, if Ambulance Victoria have arranged it. I guess it gets down to it being "Medically Authorised", ie required by a Doctor.

6.6 COVER WHILE INTERSTATE
Subject to section 6.7, Members are covered for the same benefits interstate that they would have received had they been in Victoria. All the conditions relating to ambulance transport in Victoria will apply to any transport received interstate.
When Medically Authorised, transport back to Victoria may be arranged. Prior approval from AV is required to arrange return transportation to Victoria.
A Member may be presented with an account for transport by an interstate service. If this occurs, the account and membership details should be directed to the AV Accounts Department for settlement.
6.7 ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE (RFDS)
The AV Membership Scheme does not have reciprocal arrangements with the RFDS. Payment for transport other than as directed by AV will be the responsibility of the Member unless RFDS transport is arranged by AV.

Thanks mate, will check that.

I think all members need to check this.

A mate got picked up and treated/transported to hospital from the back of beyond by the RFDS - he said it was a 'no cost' as the RFDS do not charge. Not sure if this applies to inter-hospital transfers though.
One of our locals works for a patent transfer company which just got sold to the RFDS - their idea is to raise awareness of the RFDS outside if their normal operating area...possibly to seure more donations.

Where I live, the only "ambulance" we have to get to a major hospital is the RFDS. Although it does not cost, I happily donate a good sum each year to them, knowing the fantastic work they do. I have been flown once by RFDS from Mulan to Broome, had to wait over night with a bone broken in four places (the panadeine didn't do a lot of good), and when the RFDS turned up, and put some morphine in me, I had a great chat with the pixies, and felt no more pain from what I can remember.
People need to acknowledge that when they intend to travel in our wonderful country, although I hope noone needs their services, the RFDS do a great job and more should give a little regularly to keep the planes in the air.
