Title: Tow Toungs (Tongues)
Post by: speewa158 on June 22, 2012, 01:10:59 PM
Recently heard that it is becoming a trend to leave the removable hitch in the tug when not in use . Some lowlifes are going around pulling the safty lock pin out . Eventelly the draw pin works it way out . Buda Bing Buda Boom you in huge troble possibly on the road with a CT hanging on chains & uncontrolable . Get a lock & lock them on or remove it all together , carry it in the truck  .
Better top be safe than sorry

I leave mine in the hitch all this time to stop idiots in car parks giving me gentle taps up the bum, but I also have a lock as I was told years ago low life’s steal the tongues and sell them at local markets.

I am far too trusting me thinks!!

Why would someone want to steal a hitch and really - how much $$ could it really get them - not a lot I would think!

What is the world coming to?  This is making me think about our big lap in 18 months time - am I going to have my solar panel flogged, gas bottles flogged, canvas ripped etc?  I have never had an issue before and would think that us campers were an honest bunch.

Anyway - better be safe than sorry - does anyone have a link to one they recommend?

I've had this one for about 12 months.  Seems OK so far.

I had a bike carrier with 2 mountain bikes secured by one of those lockable pins "removed" at an overnight stay in a Motel. I now use a tractor pin with a Heavy duty padlock either end and wire braid looped through to secure. Bitch to cut quietly and almost impossible without a grinder. If nothing on the hitch into the car.

i always remove the hitch getting sick of knocking my drunken shins on it.I have 3 hitches 1 with 50mm ball 1 with bike carrier and 1 with the tregg attached alot easier sliding in and out rather than loosening the nut

Mandrake thats the go , heres a tip fill the lock with grafite so the road dirt is slowed down from clogging up the works . Duct tape over the key hole also is handy
