Anyone have any feedback on the 50th anniverary Engels. Looking to buy a 40 litre, not sure whether to go with the tried and tested version or the new kid on the block which has the better controls I believe.

Isn't just a normal Engel but painted Gold?? Then I saw the Recommended Retail Price: AUD$1549.00 which is $390 more than I paid for my normal 40L Engel 12 months ago. That also included the cover and digital display.
I personally think it's a lot of money just for a different colour.

Hi, beside the digital display, low voltage cut out and being able to set the temperature by degrees its pretty much the same as a normal one. I researched fridges for months before I purchsehed a fridge ( not an engel) ultimatley its down to the $$$ you can afford and your personal requirements. I also couldn't stand getting that gold one dirty!!!! >:D needs to be in a kitchen not a camper!!

Thought about Engel 50th Anniversary one before we bought the normal one.. can not justify the extra cash for a fancy looking thing.... Go the normal.

Once you fit a cover you don't see the gold...

Hate the colour, love the control panel. The standard Engel controls are not as good as the competition (ARB, Waeco).
I wouldn't pay extra for the fridge though, bargain them down and put a cover on it so you don't have to look at the paint.

Must admit I'm not into the new cover colour (Black) either. If I went with the Goldy, I reckon I'd try and get one of the old covers for it.

Thought i would share my purchase
I purchased a 50th anniversary model fridge from engeland in WA paid $1389 delivered to central Qld this inc transit bag (shipped from nearest capital city), this was the cheapest price i could find on the www.
I already have the standard 40L engel but thought the GOLD one would be great due to being able to set the temp, we use this fridge exclusivly for food and the other for beverges. So far with the new one i haven't frozen the lettuce or anything for that matter so in a nutshell am very happy with the new one.
Also the transit bag for this fridge has been modified to allow better access to the fridge catch on the front

Thanks BrettK for your info. Heading to the big smoke next week. See what I can find!

Gday Family Guy, dont be roped into the argument over the digital temp settings. once you own a normal engel for more than 2 minutes it beomes pretty easy to workout what setting will give you the temp you need. i own both a 60L and a 32L engel and dont have a drama. remember, the more electronics they have the more can go wrong.
Noone wants hot beer....

THAT'S GOLD!

THAT'S GOLD!
And a lot of it!
Aside - I personally bought the ARB fridge because I wanted the digital controls (and at 47L, it was a bigger capacity than the dearer 40L Engel). My brother has an Evakool with the old-skool temp dial, and has never had a problem with keeping things at the right temp. So tbh, I don't know that there's a whole lot in it.
My feelings on paying $400 more for a bright gold fridge are pretty well known around here, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it if you can see the extra value. Brettk is happy with his, for instance, and can see the value in paying the extra which is great for him (no sarcasm intended, surprisingly).
At the end of the day, you're buying an Engel so I think we can all agree on the fact that it will give you many years of faithful service. Just please, for the sake of all our eyes, fit some sort of a cover to it.... ;D ;D
Cheers!

$400 extra .... for me that would pay for a summer vacation here in the USA ...
At least that's the way I look at it ...
