Title: Can you repair a hole in Bed fly?
Post by: Sicilianmama on June 13, 2012, 10:58:36 PM
So we've been airing out the canvas, flies, awning etc after the rain on the weekend & somehow the bed fly got caught on something ( I think the spare tyre mount) & now has a hole in it :(
Is there anyway of patching a hole in bed flies? Or am I up for a whole new one?

Thanks Crankymama  >:(

If l was giong to hava crack at it ,, depending on how big the hole is cover the hole with silicon then a patch of about the same color fabric . It shuold be waterproof  & flexable . Some wont like the idea  but it works

You can get canvas repair kits from camping stores like Rays Outdoors, Anaconda, etc. and canvas retailers.  Haven't used one for ages so I can't help with current prices but I expect it would be about $10-$20.

You used to be able to get a iron on patch from dressmaking supplies.
Just get the  material back to as close as original position as possible and put patch on underside and iron on.
They are designed for jeans etc so are washable and tough.

Thanks for your replies, I can't seem to find a patch repair kit, have rung Rays they had no idea what I was even talking about. I called All Seasons Canvas where they came from and they suggested getting some poly tarp stuff from my local tarpaulin shop (an off cut should do) and glue it on with Bostick shoe adhesive. So hopefully I can get the same type of stuff and it won't be too noticeable, although being the bed fly and up so high you not be able to see it anyway but I'm just concerned about it still being waterproof as we have never had issues with water leaking into the bed ends and I think the flies make a big difference. Will let you know how I go!
