Was looking at a nissan Dualis Auto. This model uses a CVT type auto. Was told by a workmate that when he looked at the Dualis. he questioned the salesman about the cost of servicing the auto gearbox. After a bit of prompting the salesman said that the gearbox needed a "belt' change and service at least every 40K km and the estimated cost was $2500 on top of the normal service charge.
This seems extreme and as its a normal wearing part its not covered by warrenty.
Does anyone know if theres any truth in this.

I have read on Australian Xtrail forum that the CVT has lasted 90 000 k towing a van over a 3 1/2 year period with no problems also read were they have had to replace the transmission after 10000 k both vehicles share the same transmission(Dualis and Xtrail) http://www.jatco.co.jp/ENGLISH/PRODUCTS/CVT/JF011E.html (http://www.jatco.co.jp/ENGLISH/PRODUCTS/CVT/JF011E.html) .
I have bought my wife a Xtrail with a CVT and find it very nice to drive, interesting feeling not having any gear changes though.
