My boss is on holidays from today and guess what else good happened today? My boss got his brand new car delivered. And guess what else...? I get to drive it for the next five weeks.
It's a 2012 GXL V8 TD 200 series landcruiser. Oh sweet mercy. It got delivered with 14km on the clock. I wonder how many kms I can rack up in the next five weeks? Did I mention the full private use part? Do you think I am excited...? :-)
It's actually a little bit of a bummer in a way as it is going to spoil us badly, because at home we are in serious deliberations about what to do with our own cars - sell both and get something newer or keep what we have and be happy with our (very lucky) lot in life...? We have a 2004 GXL 100 series 4.7L V8 with 180,000km and a 2003 GLX TD Pajero with 195,000km. What to do what to do what to do (nothing for the next five weeks at least).
One comment I will make is that I reckon the dashboard and finish in the 200 series is far more "plastic" than in my 100 series. And didn't I look like a dill pulling up at the wrong side of the bowser (tank is diff side to my 100 series), only to reverse out and make others need to reverse out, then pull up at the other side of the bowser, only to then realise it was a diesel not a petrol. :-[

Could have been worse, you could have filled it with unleaded :)

Nice, I wonder if a new car order will be placed in the next 5 weeks >:D

Those 200's go so much better, and I think Bigjules would agree with me, when someone else has paid for them. ;D ;D
Funny story, my sister has to a degree alienated herself from most of my family. About 12 months ago we had to attend the funeral of a close family friend, my sister didn't take her car into the city so myself and dad offered to pick her up, take her to the funeral and memorial then drop her back at a train station to head home, about halfway down I asked dad if he had told her about his new car his response was "I didn't think of that". She cottoned onto the new car straight away. We got through the day and at the memorial I only had 1 beer then switched to soft drink, dad had a few beers and suggested I should drive home. We walked back to the car, we all got in, I pressed the start button and drove off. No keys had changed hands and it must have looked to her like I had a key for dads new car. ;D ;D ;D

Be careful mate, once you drive one of these things, it is very hard to go back >:D

I'm a Land Rover fan myself, but I must say the 200 series looks pretty good out in the bush. We went away to Newnes over Easter and friends brought their new 200 GX along to test it out. Apart from the loud crawl control, it is one very capable truck.
Here's a video of how it handled some offroading around the Lost City and Spanish Steps areas.

Does private use include offroad? >:D
Cheers

He wasn't afraid to punt it around. My kind of 4wder.

my concern exactly...
I do a 120km round trip to work each day and could certainly become accustomed to driving this 200...
But buying one for ourselves is well beyond our means :'(

Yes, but would be a bit reluctant to test its full capability just in case...
I dont think the boss would be happy to come back and find his new car (which he hasnt driven yet) at the panel beater.
Might just test it out on the beach ;D

Wow Stozz, enjoy it while you can mate.. I have new GX poverty pack we use for 4wd training at work... love it to drive.... needs a better suspension but the power is unbelievable....
-
Have to hand back the 200 series to the boss today :-[
Managed to clock up 3,000km and he hasn't even driven it yet.
We're really going to miss that 'gurgling' sound of the V8 turbo. Vehicle has awesome pick up, power and comfort. Has probably ruined us for life now!
It was fun while it lasted...

Hey mate can't you resign today and keep the car?
-
Watching that 200 series on the track has me waiting impatiently for the wet season now. Listening to the commentary on the video, I am wanting to know where the kitchen sink is, as it seems to have everything else, but I would not buy one....too many extras that could go wrong out here.

They are great to drive although it is weird watching the bullbar "wobble" so much due to the way their mounting system is isolated from the vehicle. Hard to describe but odd to see.

I believe this is more to do with the body mouning system than the bullbar. What you're seeing is the movement of the body on the chassis, where the bullbar is solidly mounted. I see it in my 100, especially when flexing the suspension.

So, have you decided on the color yet?
>:D

I have seriously thought about doing a runner with the 200... but alas, no. :'(
Resigned anyway (a few weeks back) and only 7 more days to go (and counting).
Sold our 100 series cruiser and now we're just going to use the Paj as the tourer. Needs some love, bells and whistles but no rush.

Gee Stoz, you're boss is an understanding bloke. I'd be beside myself if someone racked up 3000 clicks on my new car before I'd even driven it.
I'm not criticising here, just recognising that my generosity wouldn't extend as far as your boss'.
They're a great vehicle, mine's done 96,500 and I've done all bar 100 or so!
