Hi All
Hopefully fellow newbies to MySwag can learn from my mistake.
Our Modcon is new to us and Easter was our first major offroad trip.
I filled the water tank and water bottle in the Modcon as I wanted to see how I would go pulling the Camper up the beach fully loaded. While it still doesn't have the fridge installed I figured it would be a good test. So with the Modcon now full and the Navara packed, I decided I should go and test everything including the brakes and the new brake controller.
So off down the road I go, not too fast, then hit the brakes gently, mmm ok but set the brakes a bit higher and test again. I hit the brakes harder this time and FEEL THIS ALMIGHTY THUMP AT THE BACK, oh crap, what was that?
I pull over to investigate fearing for the worst, wondering how much that thump was going to cost me. I meekly walk around the back and discover some good news, nothing broken!
I had not checked that the tail gate was securely fastened and so on accelerating I can only imagine the kitchen must have swung wide open and then SLAMMED shut when I hit the anchors.
So I learnt 2 lessons today: always do a full check of the Modcon before take off and that my decision to buy an Aussie built Modcon was a wise investment.
Even my own stupidity hasn't been able to break it.

Idiot proof you say......................
Glad you got away with no damage!
-
Thats nice to hear...........the no damage bit.
I have now got to the stage of getting both of us to walk around the vehicle and CT verbilising all points that are closed, shut, clipped and up and on.
and looking under for things stashed there too !!!!!

At least you didn't drive off with your jockey wheel down, not that I have done this :-[
Small piece of paper laminated with an 'idiot list' is a good way to go. Especially in case of emergency and somebody else has to pack your camper/camp up.
-
I hear some people forget to check the swing away carriers on their Kaymars, as well........... :-[
-
I have heard of people forgetting to remove the chock blocks from the wheels as well...
