does anyone here own a Great Wall? Especially one of the new diesel SC or Dual cabs?? Thoughts and experiences please!

There's a couple good threads in the 'MY 4wd' section.
One in particular with some great build up pictures of the fit out.
Budget priced and cheap enough.

I know of a few people that use/own them and they get very ordinary very quick mate,I would buy a second hand jap ute over one of these until they sort there longevity issues.
Gearbox ,tailshaft,clutch,A/C issues.
Do a google search on them.
But each to there own. :cheers:

Got a mate who owns a 4x4 accessories shop and bought a Great Wall as the shop ute....not sure if it's a V200 or V240....he loves it....little under powered but a chip fixed that, all the accessories he has added are RA rodeo, towbar, side steps, hard top lid and suspension, Bullbar......it's black with scmick 20" wheels and lots of alloy stuff, looks a million bucks.
Would I buy one......he'll no !!!!......but in his case makes great economics, all the accessories are written off to the shop......truck looks like sex on a stick.......got young blokes all over town wanting to buy it......going to sell before warranty expires, and will lose about 6 grand over 3 years after a $24000 purchase.

People will always bag out the great wall, to justify why they paid 2,3 or even 4 times as much for theirs. :angel:

Whats wrong with a Niva , the rear window is heated to keep your hands warm when you push it home to fix it again >:D

I test drove one in Perth last year and thought it was not to bad, except I do not think it needs a 6 speed box as it does not have enough power and you are all ways changing gears. There is a chip available which increases torque to 360 NM so that may help. Other wise quality is pretty good for the price.
And the old Niva, had one to, and while it was going nothing could follow you ;D but when you get paid two bottles of Vodka a day to build them, then the build quality was a little poor :'(

Compared to ....anything else, they are cheap and light weight. (I know that from my inspection/measuring of chassis etc - in fat Blind Freddy could see that!) But I'd like owner/user feedback.
Does the 4WD diesel have low-range... if not, how low is first gear in the six-cogger...

Do you have any aftermarket bits on it - such as dual battery trays, modified suspension etc - and does Colorado/Rodeo/D-Max stuff fit?
I'm more or less committed to buying one (diesel manual) to convert into a GT Camper but going in with a little prior knowledge might save me some time and hassle
So, a GT Campers based on a Great Wall and specified almost the same as my Hilux Expedition for around $38-$40K drive-away? Would that be an appealing vehicle?
Like my Hilux I'm planning a fully-equipped 'Tourer' with tent, Hard Deck, Bikini awning, dual batteries, slide-out kitchen, 70L water tank, fridge (on slide) etc
Thought, opinions, experiences, ideas and LOLs all welcomed...

Did you consider a Mahindra? I presume they would be similar but might be a bit tougher.

About 2yrs ago we were at Lorne Station ,Lightning Ridge and a guy pulled in with a Great Wall 4wd Ute,not the diesel towing a CT.Upon speaking to him he had just completed al the known major outback tracks and the vehicle preformed faultlessly.He even had some 4wd motoring mag querying him about it.BUT we were considering one but with much research found that many owners wanted to resell and they start falling apart after about 50,000kms.All the info is plastered allover the net on many forums.

Allan as much as I like the Mahondra for being a soulful little truck I'm looking at Great Wall due to popularity. I see st least a dozen a day.
Bush bandit thanks too, but if your research is net-based it will be tainted! I have mates with GWs on-fleet approaching 100 Kkm with few issues

GT for mine I wouldn't buy one but I think you will get plenty who will. Only person I knew with GW had a fair few issues but they repaired everyone under warranty without a flinch and supplied a loan car each time, which wouldnt work for me touring with one and a camper. Chinese cars are the way of the world now and there popularity will continue to grow so if your in early.....
