Title: Tambo Cooper XT maiden Voyage
Post by: Chongololo on May 13, 2012, 04:24:27 PM
So we took the Tambo Cooper XT, now know as the Hilton, out for our first camp trip. Ended up going to Boar Gully at the Brisbane Ranges National Park.

We had the perfect weather for a bit of canvas seasoning (which we couldn't do at home as we don't have the space)   It rained on and off each hour on Saturday evening. Sunday morning was a beaut, until the final 5 minutes of packing the tent up when we got one last shower to wet the canvas before it went under the travel cover.

Even though we were only there for the one evening, we put up every last thing so that we were fully set up. This is our first trip so wanted to check it all out.

It's a bit tent. But it's awesome.

I'm surprised you got that into the spaces provided -- I would have thought the bollards would have kept you out... I was thinking of taking our Pinnacle over there for a test run but remembered the bollards and went to Teddington Res instead...
Cheers

Hi Steve,

Yeah, we only just made it fit. The door of the awning (when we had the front wall up) had a bollard right in front of it. More pics below:

If anyone is remotely interested I did a time lapse video of the camper setup. It's about 1.5 mins long

Yeah. The kids got some lunch in while I struggled with the bedroom at the back. The joys of having the kitchen ready to go :)

And I reckon I could get sorted a lot quicker next time. First time always takes a longer than expected right?

Geoff, sounds like I need to check out this teddington reserve....

Teddington Reservoirs - Just south of ST Arnaud ... Really nice spot next to a small reservoir .. Toilets but no water - Funny that a reservoir and no water to drink... LOL

Hey mandrake,

That's a great looking spot. Any fish in that reservoir?

Nice CT too :)

It's the water supply for the town of Stuart Mill.

The camp ground is a very short drive off the highway. Easy to get to.

IIRC, fishing is permitted, but powered boats are not.............

They were supposed to be stocking it with Yellowfin ?Yellowtail? Yellow something anyway ... I don't know if they did or not ....
There's some nice 4WD tracks out the back of the camp ground too .. not sure how good or bad as I was too busy sitting , looking at my new CT and christening it with a few sherbets... LOL

Cheers

Well done getting out and seasoning the canvas  :cup:

That's a great video, I'm going to do the same next time I set the camper up! How long between photos did you set the camera for?

The video was done with an iPhone app called (funnily enough) TimeLapse. I had an interval of 2secs and the vid had a 30fps frame rate.

Next time I'm doing one for set up and one for pack up. :)

Oh, and I started a blog....

Hi Chongo,

I just found this thread now. I'm glad you managed to squeeze that CT in the camp site! Boar Gully is a nice little spot. The CT looks great and that's a huge tent, well done  :)

Well done mate

How long do you reckon it would take to set up including the back room when you have it down pat?

Thanks Chris, we love it. Been out 3 times now!

BD, I think it took us about 1.5-2 hrs to fully set up, but that included a lunch break. Did you see this post from the blog?

It doesn't get the back room in the shot, but the time in the corner should give you an idea.

Chongololo, whish my XT took 1.5 mins to set up.

While watching it I couldnt believe how low the tent section was at the start, then I realised we leave our annexe zipped on and folded over on top of the tent when we pack up, makes it a lot easier when you set up the next time.

Cheers, nice vid, great camper
