Post by: krisandkev on May 12, 2012, 09:14:32 AM
Soooo, it is International Nurses Day today, and Mothers Day tomorrow.  I am both, so wonder if that means I am going to have great shifts on my late/early shifts this weekend.  I think not.  But happy nurses day to all the nurses I am sure are lurking on this site, and happy mothers day to us all!!

Nurses, what a wonderful job they do.
the all deserve a pay rise.

I humbly apologized after I used a slight bit of profanity after my dislocated shoulder week before last.
damn it hurt,  but I apologized profusely after it slipped out in frustration and pain.

They deserve better, though by all accounts, that was nothing to what they put up with on a Friday/Saturday night.

12 odd years ago I spent a month or so in Royal Brisbane after suffering a brain hemorrhage, aneurysm. Spent a lot of time in the unit that deals with people that had head trauma.
Don't remember much about it, only a few snippets, kinda like Ground hogs day.
One very clear memory I have is of sitting out side having smoke(Yeah I Know, Stupid hey, gave up a few months later) and there was a young nurse with me on her break having a smoke as well, I had seen her earlier being spat on and sworn at by a patient, she was hunched over, I asked her how does she put up with that?
She lifted her head, and smiled at me and said, "They don't mean to do it, they will get better"
I'll never forget that.

Thank you to all nurses.  :cup:

How nice to read the compliments for nurses. Nursing has enriched my life greatly. What a privilege it has been to care for so many, and share their stories. Thank you, C, nurse, midwife, mother of 4 .

I had not heard of this before. Lots of nurses in my family.

In my younger day I was always generous to young, underpaid nurses around Randwick. Free drinks and a back rub. Not as many takers as I'd hoped.

To all the nurses who have tended me professionally, and there has been quite a few, I offer my sincere gratitude and wish you all a lovely day.

I too am married to a wonderful nurse. Nurses cop a bad wrap as does the public health system. But considering what they have to cover from Air evacuations to grounds maintenance they do well. My wife is a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I will pass on your gestures of thanks.

Cheers!!
