So I know there are lots of threads about webers but I couldn't find the answer to my question.
I'm tossing up between the baby q 100 or the baby q 100e with thermostat. If I was to just get the baby q 100 is there anything I can use to check the temperature inside? I know you can get the weber digital thermometer but can this only be used for cooking meat? Like can you use it to just check the temperature inside the weber? Say if I wanted to cook cakes in there and need to know the inside temp but don't have meat to put the probe in.
The reason between the indecision is that rays have 26.5 % off tomorrow inc webers which makes the baby q quite a bit cheaper than the q100e which never seem to go on sale and can only be bought from specialist dealers.
-
BBQ ,s galore has the weber with the thermostat and higher hood while rays has the standard model.
Depending on whether you are cooking a large roast or not.

Evening. I'm sure there would be some sort of temp gauge you could integrate, but by the time you buy one you would be better off buying the 100e and by the Sounds of it it's important to you. If you can't afford it now you can always buy the lid later on and bolt it on as you can now buy them separately

I have a weber Q200 and have used it to cook most things from roast meat and roast veggies to pizzas, steaks and bacon and eggs, works great if you follow the recommendations that come with it or in the Weber cook book.
Have never had the need for a thermometer which are often a question of accuracy on any hooded BBQ. The fact that I haven't had a failure yet is testament to the Weber product and it ease of use as I am no cook.
Cheers

-
Well said wartim I've got a q200 swell and cook everything in it to perfection. I suppose you get to know how it cooks after a while and its like clockwork
-
Just buy an oven thermometer, available from most department stores.
-
I have the baby q 100e with thermostat fitted my father inlaw liked it so much that he went and bought one even though thy already had a baby q 100 with the small lid that one now lives in his caravan. And you can fit a big roast in the Q with the big lid make sure you dont get talked into the extra hot plate I just use a fry pan If cooking eggs.
The other thing we use is the trivet for roasts just fold some foil up and place under trivet so it keeps the direct heat of the roast.

Thanks! That's a great idea! I could get this and with the saved money upgrade to the q200 :D

Hope it's a good compromise.
-
To be honest you probably don't need the temp gauge. I have the 220 which is the temp gauge model with the larger lid. You cook steak chicken flat out and roasts on lowest setting. Perfect every time.
-
Thanks, yeah well I can get one of those internal BBQ thermometers for under $10! So that's the way I'm gonna go I think!
-
Get the Rays model, we did at their last 20% off and haven't looked back :)

Hi,
Just reading this thread and thought I'd mention something.
I've got the Weber Family Q at home, amazing piece of kit. It to has the thermometer in the hood, which I think works really well. Awesome roast porks !
If you use one of the after market thermo mentioned above, you need to lift the hood to check the temp, thus lossing valuable heat. This inturns effect the cooking of the item in the bbq. If you read your booklet that comes with the Weber Q series it strongly suggests against this.
You can purchase a remote thermo which you stick into the cooking item and place the receiver some close to where you are, upto about 10 metres I think. This maybe a better solution.
I'd go with the model that has the hood thermometer.
Cheers, Scott
-
I've got the 220 with thermo but purchased it for the high lid because the thermo is only a guide imo. I cook bread in mine and take no notice of the thermo just cook it on high for a few mins then to low till cooked, comes out perfect.
-
Well I ended up getting the Q200 and I think every weber accessory in existence :D
I know I know, I can use other things, like a frypan or whatever but I figured whilst it was all so cheap I may as well buy it.
So I got the Q 200
Tool Kit
Roasting trivet
Premium Griddle
Pizza stone
Vegetable basket
Cleaning brush
Weber cookbook
Apron and glove
Cover
Rolling trolley
Drip trays
Oh and a 3m bayonet hose to hook it up to the Swan!

Hmm yes I had thought of this, but I figured it's not really any different to checking your roasts etc when in the oven and I don't do that often. I mainly want the temp gauge to set the initial temp then it will be left alone to do its thing!
-
Well done and yes our accessory cost was most than the unit itself...
-
Lol yeah probably! But a girls gotta have accessories!

Haha yeah I think the sales guy Met all his sales targets today, didn't even have to work hard for it either as I did most of my research on here and the net. Maybe myswaggers should get a cut of webers commission :D

Where ya going to sit the Q200??
Greg
-
Actually the 1st person that served me at Rays had no idea at all, I knew more about webers than they did, it was a little frustrating. Then this other guy came over to help and he was on the ball.

Greg
Whilst traveling I think we will just pop it inside the door of the camper, on the floor. We were originally tossing up between the baby q and the q 200 I was leaning towards the baby q as I think t would fit in the front boot of the swan, however we keep the porta potti in there and I don't think both would fit in and I wouldn't want to have it fit next to the porta potti anyway! So we would have had to put the baby q in the camper as well, so may as well get the bigger one!
-
No worries, we have an aldi electric BBQ for when we stay at CP but am now looking at the weber baby Q120. Seems a little bigger than the 100 and has the temp dial.
Cheers

Congrats on the purchase, they're a great barbie, looks like you got one with all the fruit except.....
You forgot one of these!!

I have that I use for slow cooking/smoking meat in the Weber kettle to make sure that the temp doesn't get too high. Won't be long before apple release one that will text you when the snags are ready ???
Seriously though, best barbie I've ever owned, we use it more than the inside stove. Enjoy :cup:

Q120 has a higher lid which is better suited to some roasts. Also comes with thermometer and a whopping $20 more than the Q100 at authorised Weber stockists. Unauthorised stockists won't have the Q120, only the 100, etc.

The 120 has been discontinued. The difference between the 100E and the 120 was the side table wings. All the 100 models have the same cooking area. All the 200 have the same cooking area. The "E" series has the higher lid and a temp gauge. The higher lid allows me to stack 2 pizza stones and make 2 pizzas at a time if no other reason. The price difference (RRP) is only $10 between the 100 and 100E. The replacement lid is something like $120 (to be confirmed)

Yep the 120 has the side tables but we couldn't find anywhere with them so must be discontinued. The 100e does have the higher hood though bit cooking plate is same size.
-
2 pizzas at once...might have to get the 200E ;D
Greg
-
I can get a "free" 300 series with my credit card points.
Does anyone know if you can get the 320 series higher lid as a spare part??
And is it a worthwhile addition, seeing you only get about 30mm more height??
-
Not sure, however we only have the standard Q200 and I can fit a 2.5kg roast in t no probs :)
-
However we were going to originally buy the Q220 but seen as they are never on sale and I got ours on sale at Rays with 26.5% off it was a deal to good to pass up. Then I have just bought an internal grill thermometer and a separate roast meat thermometer for only a few dollars.

Yes you can.
30mm extra allows us to do 2 pizzas at once.

Do you use the weber stones?

Do you use the weber stones?
One yes and one no see the pic.
But I use the trays.
-
Yeah I been contemplating getting another tray ski can stick another one in when ones finished. Where did you get the non weber stone if you don't mind me asking? Was it cheaper?
-

I got the stone from Harris Scarf for about $20.
However if you think about it the Weber stone (with tray) is $39. A weber tray is $15.
So if you buy a non weber stone and a weber tray you are up for $35 a huge saving of $4.
$4 you most likely spent on getting to another place to buy a non weber stone
The rack I got from the place I got the weber from. It is a non weber product.
In the baby q I use some angle iron as the stone support for the second stone which was a larger round stone with the sides cut off to fit the baby q

Well....after procrastinating a bit.... we picked up our new Weber Baby Q today.
Got the stand, cover, roasting trivet, premium griddle, 2x4kg and 1x2kg gas bottles (for the new CT), wireless thermometer (not Weber brand)
for the grand total of $40.70......!
How? By cashing up a heap of Go Mastercard points for BBQ Galore vouchers.
Now I have a long weekend on which to play with it.
We want to order the bigger cover as a spare part, so that's going to be an additional $129.
Two adults, two youngish kids, we though it was a good size for that.

$ <------------------ that's my bottom dollar... I'll bet it.

All the Q 'special' models have built in thermostats and the cotinuous-spark electronic ignition system (110, 220 & 320) are only available from Webber Specialist stores. All other webber stores that stock Webber products only bet the base models (100, 200 & 300). If you check the Webber Web Site (http://www.weberbbq.com.au/CompareAllQ.php) for your nearest Webber SPECIALIST Store.
The 300 (standard) and the 320 (special) are not travel friendly as the BBQ and the stand don't separate.
I have the 220 which is the largest portable model and has plenty of room. Also there are 2 different stands, a Stationary Cart (http://www.weberbbq.com.au/AccessoryDetails.php?id=42) and the Mobile Trolley (http://www.weberbbq.com.au/AccessoryDetails.php?id=24). I recommend the Mobile trolley as it collapses up for easy packing. Also another handy item was the Handle Light (http://www.weberbbq.com.au/AccessoryDetails.php?id=36) as it saves holding a torch.
I also recommend the Digital Meat Thermometer (http://www.weberbbq.com.au/AccessoryDetails.php?id=18) as you put the roast on & the join the party. It sounds an alarm when ready and hopefully your still up right & able to serve the meal up.
Like Sicilianmama I to near brought the whole shop. Tool Kit, Roasting trivet, Premium Griddle, Pizza stone, Vegetable basket, Cleaning brush, Weber cookbook, Cover, Mobile trolley, Drip trays, Digital Meat Thermometer, I to got the 3m bayonet hose to hook it up to the Swan! It pays to shop around. I got prices over the phone from other Webber Specialist and was about to buy a Q220 from Ebay store for $270 but still needed all the other bits. I called Home Fires - The Fan Man (http://www.homefires.com.au) and asked if he can beat the price I had. He not only beat the Ebay price he matched the discount on all the items I purchased. Since then 3 friends have seen my set up, tasted the meals & seen how easy they are....got them the same discount.

Weber don't list their wireless thermometer any more. Is the Gasmate job from Bunnings any good?

Have just ordered a IGrill Mini Meat Thermometer from the states which talks to your Iphone via bluetooth. Can be read upto 150ft away from BBQ. Will give it a go when I get back home from holidays. http://idevicesinc.com/igrill/ (http://idevicesinc.com/igrill/)

There are a few brands of thermometers that look like this. Just make sure you remove the probe as soon as it is cooked and don't let the roast stand with the probe fitted. We have had a couple fail after this. Some come back, one did Not!
-
You can get out the tinsnips and file and cut up one of those cheap thermometer gauges and get out your hole saw and install it in the lid of the barbie like I did-
http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=27436.msg427184#top (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=27436.msg427184#top)
As noted that saves losing heat opening the 'oven' to read it on the inside.
