Is anybody drivn the new defender and has any body got any feed back problems etc :cup:

Dont own one, but I did a 4wd offroad test drive for a day at Landrover-Experience UK last summer.

Must say, I liked the auto ascent control and the new engine.
Still had the cramped feel of the defender, I felt quite closed in. So on that note, didnt suit me. (fat fella)
The new engine has plenty power, smooth and good fuel economy. I liked it.
I would own one. The missus loved it, and felt comfortable.

The newer 2.2L engine is supposed to be reliable, but as with any Defender they still have the crap door seals to let the water out.
Last I heard the earlier 2.4l transit engine model had diff problems.
Visit AULRO, ask there, weed through the bias comments you'll get and you should get an idea of whether they sorted the problem out, haven't seen any problems with the 2.2l model in the tech section as yet.

I actually took one out for a test drive today.. Your right the drivers position is a little cramped and found I had to drive with the drivers window down. But it was not a bad drive, plenty of go in the new 2.2 and the new dash layout although still sparse was heaps improved over teh older design. Got up to the 100 pretty quickly.. But it still drives like a tractor.

I have currently a 2010 dual cab 110 ute as a forestry work car. We have done 70k so far in it although I did order a lc70 ute in november last year to replace it. The order got lost in government red tape and I am still waiting and ringing weekly for it.
My thought as an independent driver of heaps of 4x4s is buy a Toyota.
The landrover is a crude bit of pommy rubbish. The mechanical engineering is okay but the cabin was designed by idiots and built by apprentice cabinet makers. The novelty wears of as you rip clothes on sharp objects or the door catches, hit your head, elbows and knees on sharp bits of cabin and can't find cabin controls in the dark. It is so noisy that it may as well not have a radio(it only picks up random stations anyway and is terrible to figure out) and don't leave anything that moisture will damage on the floor.
On the upside, the constant 4x4 is good, the motor perky and the door seals let the same water that leaked in out just as easy. It is unstoppable of road ( as good if not better than any 4x4 I have ever driven and I drive lots of 4x4s.
Safety gear is non existent.
If I had a choice,( which I don't really, I just drive what ever the government buys me) I would get the new LC 70 dual cab.

Likewise, I'm very happy with mine! I've got a 2010 130 dual cab... the big barge of the range ;D Yes the seating position is different to the usual, and it may take some getting used to but I actually find it quite comfortable... No issues driving 500km without a stop doing the grocery shopping and then 500km home from town in a day. It may not ride like a sedan, but considering it's intended use and the roads out here I'd happily reccomend one to someone who will use it within it's intended purposes.

I also find the driving position very comfortable and I have a bad back and joints from rheumatoid arthritis and can do long stints in the defender ( TD5 so seats are 'worse' than the post 2007 puma models) without being in too much pain. It does take a little getting used to at first.
The thing with the defender is you either love them or hate them and if you don't like finishing off the 20% that landrover didnt bother to do you just get something else, not many people just casually own a defender.lol
When buying one it pays to be aware of the unofficial company slogan.....

Well I was going to make a comment about vehicles of Asian origin... but decided not to :angel:
Compared with dad's Patrol, or even my old Jimny yes the driver's seat could be considered cramped by some, but my elbow lives on the window sill while I'm driving so not an issue.

I love defenders and yes the seating is, well, different.......
I just dont get why they have to jam you hard against the door - maybe a smaller glove compartment and a bit more seating :D

I believe it is from the series days so you could stick your head out the window to see where your wheels , fenders were in hairy off road situations... I know that the military defenders have the seats remounted 1 inch inboard but i dont know if the mounts will be interchangeable ( assuming you can get hold of them)
I have installed the MUD rails in mine and it has made all the difference to legroom

Cool. That site has a bunch of awesome stuff... I put a big order in for one of everything pretty much once I got my defender and the little helpful things makes the truck that much better.

I was wondering whether they are going to sell them or give them to some needy niegbours . Do you know if they are going to market domestically?
