http://www.ultimatecampers.com.au/imagesDB/flipbook/Nautilusbrochure.pdf (http://www.ultimatecampers.com.au/imagesDB/flipbook/Nautilusbrochure.pdf)
Prices:
Nautilus: $94,950
Nautilus GT: $108,950
-
thats .... um .... um ... different ...in a um .. sort of way .
suppose you are either going to like it or hate it .
Just might take a bit of getting used too
-

Nautilus: $94,950
Nautilus GT: $108,950
For me, those prices dont even get love or hate consideration, more like laughter.
but each to their own.
-
didnt even get to the prices ... gotta pay for the million dollars spent in design somehow
-
It's only money Bruce......buy both models mate. One for short trips and the other for longer journeys.
-
All they need is a "UHF 18" sticker on the back. By my reackoning, it's a caravan not a camper!
 Cracka
-
Somehow, I just dont get it!
nice looking young family in the brochure, i wonder how many like them them will end up forking out the big $ for one? Most will go to cashed up GN's IMO (me being a wanna be one).
If i were lucky enough to have the disposables, id be putting them to a proper off road van.
Anyway, thats just me.
-
'Thank you for requesting our brochure. It’s the first step to owning the World’s best off-road
camper trailer, the Nautilus from Ultimate.'
The "World's Best Off Road CT". Now that is some claim to fame. ???
To be honest I've been awaiting the arrival for a little while but expected something a little different to this and certainly not those $$$'s. Still touchy, touchy & feely will be required. ;D
So far I can think of 90,000 reasons why not.
Cheers - WD

I was down at Shallow Crossing a couple of weeks ago when they were doing their photo shoot and wasnt impressed and after hearing the price I am less impressed now.
-
Looks like you could invert it into a river & go fishing in it.
-
not at that price ...lol
-
My 1st thought was "is it a boat" as noel-w said, and I think if I was to outlay those $$$ I would go with an Kedron or similar van
-
wow, need to have a lexus to tow that...no way...
-
Looks like a box on wheels and you still get canvas at that price.
-
They just had to do what everybody else did already... Kimberly have they Karavan (at least they got the name right), AOC have Quantum and Matrix etc.
Mace was right IMHO that while they always shoot young families with kids for the brochure, that demographics usually has a mortgage to worry about before buying a caravan. I personally fall into category of GN apprentice (not quite there but getting close ;D) and we only just bought our first CT.
Our thinking was like this: If you really want to be free to go anywhere, you have to be in a tent - we did that until now.
CT is a compromise, some destinations are now a no no, but you can still get to most places.
Nautilus is yet another step down on that ladder - we will probably get there eventually I guess, but hopefully not any time soon... :D

Looks like one sweet esky to chill the beers in ;D
Greg
-
Yeah its a big choice
you would never take it off the sealed roads.
I have absolutely no interest in that on any level other than....
The chinese knock-off and if its under $10,000
lol

I only just got home to see the PDF... Wow
built by the people that made this

or this

Very impressive!! That'll turn heads.
Not for me, though. Too flash, and too expensive, for something that will have rocks thrown at it (if used properly).
But I do like........
.......... how it's shape leads to a lower carbon footprint when towing. Nice that they fitted that in......
.......... how it was designed using the latest CAD systems, but the brochure shows a bloke with a pencil and an ellipse template.
I reckon it looks like a very expensive plastic Jayco, but some will love it........
-
I want to be clear here. >:(
It's not that I actually do not like it. It's more that I prefer to keep 100 grand. ;D
If I paid that sort of money then I could no longer afford to go camping.
But hey if you've got the money & don't mind shelling out, then go for it.
Cheers all

Well I fit into the demographic in the picture- but I cannot see from the pics how I'm going to fit the two kids- not keen on sleeping them on a side lounge- making it up every night- maybe they sleep under the rear bed like the original ultimate?
sorry not for me- and I have been waiting for this.
still looking for someone to build a camper (starting to get to be a stretch) in this sort of config (and like the quantum, complete campsite) that suits the kids bunk beds.
will give a call tomorrow and see if the kitchen can be moved outside to gain more interior room for beds
-
There was a thread a while back that asked the question "how long till the $100k camper"
we have a winner

There is an option for bunk beds:

Though I'm not sure about the internal configuration for where the bunks would actually be.

I suspect that both Quantum and Matrix can be easily optioned up to exceed 100K. Also, there is a new caravan from Kimberley, called Kimberley Kruiser http://www.kimberleykruiser.com (http://www.kimberleykruiser.com) This will be over 100K for sure. There are obviously irresistibly high margins in those vans (just don't call them campers!) and quite logically established and successful camper makers decided to tap into the honey jar so far enjoyed by a handful, Trackmaster, Bushtracker or Kedron.
When we decided to move on from the rooftop tent last year, we almost bought a Bushtracker. But then few visits to caravan parks quickly changed our thinking... And with a monster that size, you are pretty much confined to caravan parks. They just caravans that you can take on the dirt road, but caravans they are. Different concept, different lifestyle. Not better or worse, just different.
So personally I don't think we have a 100K camper yet, these things are anything but campers.

We've got an ulty (and love it), but that is (to quote arnie) "one ugly mother$($($("
-
I actually think the slide out rear is a good idea but they would be better trying to incorporate the slide out rear into the fold over so as to fit two double beds inside. It looks good inside if it is aiming at the caravan crossover market but that external shape is hideous.
-
It certainly looks interesting. It's a shame the brochure doesnt provide some pictures of the ensuite, bunk beds, storage etc and a diagram of the layout like on caravans would be useful. I reckon I'd want a window in the roof of the bed area as that's what I love about ulti - the bright light. I wonder if you can sit up in bed too?
Wow the market is getting interesting with the launch of Kimberley's new caravan soon too.
Lou

Hmm at first look i thought it looked ok
When we bought the Topaz we looked at the ultimate but having so much canvas just like our old swan didn't solve the problem
This one has some good features optional bunks, bed that slides out and you don't have to make it every night lots of storage and not that heavy at 1300kg and only 95kg ball weight
But at over 100k they have got to be joking right
-
Dammmmmmmm at that price the thing better make me my dinner, buy me a cold beer at the end of the day and massage my aching feet after hiking about all day, oh sorry I forgot that's what I have a wife for.................. ;D ;D ;D
-
Holy hell I could buy a new cruiser with that !!

I'd rather have the ugly ulty!
-
It's a rather ugly thing
-
Looks like an over sized tinny flipped upside down and painted white.

They have added a short promo video to YouTube:

Well that wasn't that useful! Still no real good pics of the inside. Oh well, looks as though I'll keep my 100odd grand!
-
I'd rather have the ugly ulty!
Or I could buy 2 Patrols ....nay why waste money ;D
Mark
-
What's with that video 2min 41 of it is Michael's poor presentation skills! Than it's an outside video of testing & then brochure shots. I hope there is something better planned.
Lou - who loves her ultimate just the way it is
-

You could by a 200 series and some change.
-
wow, need to have a lexus to tow that...no way...
I don't see your point? :-)
-
I don't see your point? :-)
I think it is a comment on the status symbol of a 100k camper and owning something suiatable in the status ranks to tow it with.
-
Well, I have a Lexus but I can't afford this CT.
-
And I have a 97 Landrover Discovery worth 5k pulling an Ulti Elite worth 50k ;D
-
Has anyone managed to see one in the flesh?

The Nautilus is at the Rosehill Show. I'll have a look when we go next week.

Wowsers. Not for me.

It just looks like a more streamlined Jayco. And I'm not sure streamlining a camper really makes that much difference behind a boxy 4WD anyway. Better off being more square to get the max storage space.
-
I can understand everyones horror at breaking the 6figure price tag for a camper, BUT
when you analyse the construction type, the research, tooling and design that has gone into it and the extremely close ties to commercial fibreglass boat building, the price comes home as comparable to sports cruisers with the same fitout.
Go to boatsales.com.au and price up a sports cruiser with similar fitout , new, and you will not get change from 150k. But a boat is a prestige luxury toy you say?
Then what is this Ultimate?
It is clearly designed at the people tossing around the idea of a 100k offroad van but dont want the weight.
This is not saying I want one, which I dont. My point is that we at Myswag are in general, a market demographic sector with different budget constraints to where this is aimed.
I actually think it looks ok, I have seen some awful looking boxes with fairings out there, but this isnt one of them, at least the shape flows.
If you want military style tough guy looks, buy a Conquerer or get Rockman to build you a camper. ;D
Flame on.
-
Yeh but at least a sports boat looks nice. Anyway you look at this it is 100k worth of ugly
-
With this much discussion an interest I would say that ultimate's marketing
Has been a success .
-
Hey Jon,
So what engine, navigation electronics, safety equipment, does the 100k upside down sports cruiser towable 'camper' come with.?
;D
-
Saw this at the show today. It was roped off. Maybe you need a deposit to view. lots of laughter from the crowd. Lots of better options for the dollars elsewhere.

Like wise, was pretty closely guarded invite only by the looks of things to check it out

I'd agree if the discussion was positive...

Funny stuff that was my first thought. Wheres the outboard stored? Oh well !!

Hi
A mate of mine was talking to the boys at Ultimate today. Apparently they've sold 42 of the Nautilus so far (not all delivered). The production lead time for them is now 18 months!
Wow.
-
The couple that bought our camper (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=27264.0) still have a 12 month wait on their Nautilus. Buying ours was a stop gap for them so I'm pretty sure that it will be back on the market in about a year.

Wow, scratch that. It will be on the market later today. I just had a call from them asking for the pics I used for my ad. They never even opened it up and will sell it.
-
Why the change of heart?
-
Could be a bargain coming up soon.....?
-
I kind of like the look of the Nautilous myself, can't say I like the price tag though!

Good point... but where's the Yanmar, Cummins or CAT? 8)
