POLICE were called to rescue stranded four wheel drivers on Sunday evening in the bush north of Dargo.A 55-year-old Wallan man, a 31-year-old Croydon man and an 11-year-old boy had gone four wheel driving on Sunday when their vehicle became bogged.
After attempting to get it out, they phoned police about 5.30pm.
Police from Briagolong and Maffra conducted a brief search and located the vehicle by 8pm.
With assistance from police, they were eventually able to drive out safely.
While no-one was harmed, Briagolong police Leading Senior Constable Scott Wilkinson is urging four wheel drivers to be prepared for the worst.
“People travelling into the High Country, even for a day trip, need to be well-equipped with food and clothing,” he said.
“In a very remote and isolated area, weather conditions can change very quickly.
“Always be prepared, and always tell people where you’ll be going and when to expect to return.”

Similar incident happened to my brother during a short drive near Wandong. No recovery gear, shovel, water, food or even jumpers. Only thing they had was a phone & GPS to ring me 2.5hrs away at 5pm in the afternoon. Ended up getting picked up by the nearest police 4x4 vehicle and we had to go down the next day to recover the car- a 5 min job. Needless to say he learnt a valuable lesson. The only good thing was he had his GPS coordinates, so we all new exactly where he was. Do 4x4vic still have the 'recover me please' program?

Jeez, how did you hear about this one Baz????
Yep, went up Sunday night and extracted them and their vehicle. Normally police will collect those stranded and leave the vehicle for the recovery companies, $$$$$. But in this case it was all straight forward and the young autistic lad didn't seem too happy about not going home without his Disco.

We went camping at Stradbroke Island for Easter and saw the police helping 2 young bikini clad girls who managed to bog there 4WD.
I guarantee if it was me who was bogged, they would have kept on driving (I don't blame them either because these girls were worth stopping for)

thus the reason for the permit scheme for Mt Skene.. Tools will always ruin it for all....
