Hi all I had some BF Goodrich AT fitted to the 2005 Pajero have not done 20,000 and the back 2 are almost cactus. 40psi was towing a Jayco Eagle for most of it (44psi towing) Went back to the tyre dealer and all he said were you towing and that was it. Any one any ideas??

Even wear across the tyre?
I'm on my third set and expect at least 80,000km out of them, 100 is legal but not much good for 4wding.
On 100 series it is vital that they be rotated every 5000km, 10K at the outside, else the left front tyre will wear the outer edge very quickly. There is no doubtr that towing does cause more wear, but not to that extent I wouldn't have thought.
GURich was telling me about his ATZ 4 ribs and felt that he only got about 40K+ out of them, but he did lots of hard 4wding and towing in that period. Rich was very disappointed with that limited life.

Was it the inside edges that were worn out? Doesnt the Paj have independent rear suspension? Was the suspension set up for towing properly (air bags etc) as if not the inside of the tyre could wear prematuraly. BFG's get a pretty good rap for wear and strength, so it could be an issue with the wheel allignment or suspension setup maybe.

Is the suspension standard and do you run Airbags? Id also be checking the rear alignment, if its running a heap of toe/camber it will wipe the tyre quiet quickly.

If its not even across the tread then the rear is not set up correctly for your independent rear suspension. Its probably fine for non towing but when you hook up the rear squats and the camber goes out.
You can fit airbags and use these to adjust the height. (not the optimum way to set up suspension but does work)
You can also set it up for non towing and then use a weight distribution hitch to level the car. (may have to take it off when 'off road') The IRS is the only real downfall on the paj.

The wear is even righy across the tyre. No uneven wear it just looks like stuff all tread is there. Suspension has 2" lift and as I said towing a Jayco Eagle not a heavy van.

I was also wondering if your suspension geometry was OK. Is it all four (5?) that have worn?

Something definately sounds odd about that.
You should get much better wear.
I would take it to a specialist to have it checked out.
Did your previous tyres wear badly, and or have you had somework done to suspension etc?
Just some things to think about.
I was getting 60K plus out of my BFG muddies and they were still well within legal, just got a bit too noisy and not as safe as I like.
Hope you sort it out, cos thats just no on. :'(

My BFG AT's have 15000 on them and I have trouble seeing the wear. The horizontal pips are still there.
I rotate them every 5000 and do all 5.

I am on my third set of BFG ATs and the wear so far has been great.
The first set were on a Hilux mostly, but ended up on a GQ Patrol. They lasted 130,000k before they became too hard and wouldn't handle wet bitumen well and got the flick. They still had over the legal tread depth though.
The second set went with the GQ but were wearing well.
The third set are on the GU. I have done 70,000k so far, a lot of towing and outback tracks included in that, and there is still quite a bit of meat left, probably about 20,000k at a guess.
All the tyres were/are rotated every 10,000k, including the spares.
All the tyres seem to 'wear' quickly in the first 20 - 30,000k of their life, I don't know what it is but they always look like they will only make it to 40,000k and then this phenomenon seems to stop and they get that half worn look that then lasts for ages. Maybe it is only me being overly critical.
I would approach another dealer or the company about your excessive wear. When the KM2s first appeared on the market I heard a rumour that they were rushed over here and sold straight away, and that the compound in the tyre hadn't hardened enough and excessive wear was the result. Due to the woeful supply of tyres lately, maybe you have been caught up with the 'green' tyre issue.

I have an NP 2004 Pajero and do a fair bit of towing with my camper trailer and also tow my 2 tonne boat regularly. I have air bags, plus heavy duty springs all round and had a wheel alignment done when the new tyres were fitted, which were Bridgestone D694LT. The tyres have worn quicker than I would have liked and I have done about 40,000km out of them, and reckon I'll comfortably get 50,000km, maybe at a squeeze 60,000km (rotating only 4 tyres, not 5). If I get 60,000km it's probably not all bad considering how these tyres have performed, and what they have been subjected to.
Getting 20,000km out of a set of BFG does sound extreme, did you rotate them at all? Are you sure the wheel alignment is set up right with your trailer connected? having said this I reckon the Pajero's with independent suspension are just one of those vehicles that don't often get really good mileage out of tyres when compared to the numbers some people say they've achieved with other types of mid-sized 4 wheel drives.

I fitted a new set of 694LT's to my Paj (wheel alignment etc) before heading off around OZ towing a camper trailer (Kimberley) and I was shocked at how worn my rear tyres were after 20,000kms. :'(
I meant to have them rotated in Broome but stuffed up the appointment time & just never got around to it. :-[
Arriving back home I went back to my local dealer who claimed that it was the Pajero's rear independent suspension that was to blame. Seems all the alignments in the world mean zilch once the CT is hooked on.
Strange that he didn't mention this when I was getting the job done. >:(

Dunno... maybe it's just independent suspension that eats tyres. Here is my 2cents worth... i don't own a paj or use BFGs.
My wife has a grand vitarra, independent suspension all round. This thing just EATS tyres. I always put the best tyres on this car as it is used by the mrs and kids. I can't remember the exact model but always over $300 per tyre. I would be lucky to get 40,000 out of a tyre. 30,000 is more likely. The car never tows anything and the only off road it does is fast gravel and sand. The trade off.... rev it up, drop the clutch, halfway around a corner, in the pouring rain... it never spins. Pure traction! Maybe the independent rear end is just like this???
The cruiser, with coopers st, used to tow a camper and gets a good offlroad workout... they are wearing very very well. The current set is approaching 40,000. At least 10,000 of that was towing.
How did all your other tyres last?

I've found with my Paj it's a good idea to get an alignment with it loaded if your going on a trip.

A thought, are you towing in 2wd or 4wd superdooperselect?

Lots of questions to answer. Been towing in 2wd as most of the kms were on the black stuff last tyres bridgestone were fine. Hope to have an answer to why as I have a meeting with the Michelin rep next week, after going to a retired ex tyre dealer friend, who took one look at them and said holy #hit them shouldnt be like that.

I drive 4x4 TD Rodeo (05) Ute for work and it is empty 85% of the time, If you don't rotate the tyres the backs will be bald (illegal) before the fronts are 50% worn, don't know why, have played with pressures and only changes the way they wear not the speed. So if left the fronts would easy go 60k and the rears would be slicks by 40k.
It doesn't get driven like V8, you couldn't, its a 3ltr diesel and gets 10ks to the litre round town, so its not wheel spin ;D

Here is another silly question..
Once the lift kit was fitted, did the Paj get a 4 wheel wheel alignment? i had a 2inch lift put under my pathy, went to the local tyre dealer he sent me off to get the 4 wheel alignment done. He told me they normally only do the fronts??

Hi all just to clear about the tyres I have had them on for just less than 20,000 ks I would guess I have about 10,000 left on them maybe? This is only only the set on the rear. I had a meeting with the Michelin rep today and he said WOW took photos and measured the remaining tread. The front 2 tyres look to be wearing ok. Yea I have been towing a Jayco Eagle. The Michelin rep is gunna get back to me a nice guy Steve I will keep you informed.

I have a 2004 NP Pajero and just got 75,000km out of a set of Maxxis Bravo AT's.
I have towed a Golstream Storm Offroad and now a Poptop Caravan both probably heavier than your Jayco.
What tyre pressure are you towing with?
