Title: Best Apps for Android Tablet.
Post by: Frostd on April 02, 2012, 09:51:12 AM
I just purchased a new Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 ;D, running Andriod :D.
There are a lot of threads out there discussing the pros & cons for different tablets/Pads etc, but for those swaggers using a tablet running Android, what are the BEST apps, including games for kids, you have on your system and why?? ;D ;D

I started a thread on this exact topic a few weeks back.  Not alot of answers but what I have found is to look for the reviews on the download page (free apps are all I have downloaded so far), google is your friend, when you find a good app look for more from the same developer, easy to delete if you don't like them so don't stress.  Some have advertising popups that are a nightmare so got deleted straight away.  I will list the good ones we found when I get home for you.  In the mean time maybe ask the mods to merg this thread with the one I already started so all the info is in one place.

Hi Frostd,

I have an 32 GB Acer Iconia A500 (non 3G) which I've had for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it, I don't think my netbook has been used since buying it. I mainly use it to keep myself amused on my 1 hour 20 minute train ride to the city and then back home again. I watch TV shows or movies on it and every once in a while I'll get a train with free Wifi and I'll then surf the web. At work I use it in meetings to take notes and I find Evernote fantastic for this type of work.
Anyway here are a list of the apps I use, I tend not to buy apps unless they come very highly recommended by someone who has used them. Also make sure you have a password to purchase apps from the Android market I find a lot of the free apps have advertising (hence free) and the kids will sometimes select banners and end up in the Android market to buy the full version or related apps by the developer -could prevent accidental purchases.

My apps

Evernote - Great for note taking in meetings
Pulse - News Reading app which you customise to your interests
Astro File Manager - Great for managing files/movies/pics etc
GaurdX antivirus - Was one of the first available when I got my tablet, I haven't looked at any of the newer offerings
Drop Box - File sharing across devices/platforms
OziExplorer - I haven't used this a lot but have managed to run Hema and some topo maps
K-9 Mail - Not a bad free email client
V-Player - Plays all the common movie formats
Zinio Reader - Magazine Reader/downloader
Stick Cricket - Very addictive
Uno - Everyone loves Uno
Lets Golf - Came pre loaded on the tablet and I enjoy playing it.

Kids Apps (I do play some of them)

I think my kids (both under 6) use my tablet more than I do...

Monkey Lunchbox Preschool - Great for younger children
iStory books - Book reader
Blast Monkey - I can get addicted to this one...
Angry Birds - All versions, they love this
Kids Doodle - drawing
Kids Colouring - colouring pictures
Kids Memory - memory match
Dora Puzzle
Disney Princess Puzzle
Lets Bowl - Ten pin bowling

I've got a few loaded.
Speed hud (free)- gps powered, no data usage, put the tablet/phone on your dash an it creates a heads up display.
Fuel  log- enter the details at each fill it calculates the consumption and much more (free for up to 2vehicles)

Games (all free)
WCC cricket
Drift mania
ROC world championship
All good time wasters imo.
