I'm trying to get my head around the itinerant worker classification. Is there someone who has worked their way around Oz and claimed expenses? If you're comfortable to give some more info, I would be eternally grateful! Can either post here or PM if you prefer.

I'd be interested to hear some responses and comments from this.
I have heard of old folk claiming caravan park expenses, but then its only idle gossip unless confirmed by someone who actually has done it.
Tax deductible fuel expenses would be a bonus as would living away from home allowances, infact, its getting even cheaper to go travelling if that was the case.

I know you have to have a home base you return to periodically and work has to be arranged before moving to the next place. You also need to be very good with record keeping.

Hi Everyone,
I don't know the rules but we sat in on a lecture put on by Workabout Australia and they had an accountant who discussed and there was talk about a book you got when you signed up might be worth a look at their website. He claimed that he cclaimed 60% of his fuel bill on tax now I can't remember all the ins and outs but we might have to get serious about it. Hubby just got the sack after 36yrs at the same place as he got injured at work and they say that they can't find him work ha ha!

I've read all the websites (ato, various accountants, other working around Oz sites), but I was hoping someone has ACTUALLY done it so I can make sure I'm doing all the right things. I'll be recording everything anyway, but want to make sure we maximise our earnings. I also wanted to know if having an A.B.N. makes any difference to hiring prospects and/or minimising tax etc.
I'm actually studying accounting online, but am only on my fourth unit of eighteen and the courseis pretty well focussed on graduates being tax agents...a bit too general for this sort of stuff!

May be worth the couple of hundred buck speaking to a good accountant and get all the facts mate
