Title: How to burn vegies.
Post by: fuji on March 22, 2012, 12:22:57 PM
1.     Place a saucepan full of vegies on high heat until boiling.
2.     Turn down heat to simmer.
3.     Pick up iPad and go to myswag.org.
4.     Read myswag forum with great interest and concentration, until the missus rings.
5.     Put down phone and go back to forum.
6.     Sniff the air and say to yourself, " I think the tree fellas next door are burning something."
7.     Jump up in panic, yell out "CRAP " rush into kitchen, turn gas off and throw out the burnt vegies
        and scrub the saucepan.
8.     Start with new vegies.
"Sorry folks I had to regale that story to you."

Did the same thing last week, minus the iPad and throwing stuff away.

Steaming some pumpkin for a soup and forgot about it until I noticed the smoke in the lounge room.  Also found out my grandparents fire alarms don't work.  Still used the pumpkin, wasn't burnt due to being steamed a fair distance above the heat gave the soup a rather nice smoky flavour, that I was complemented for and asked how I got it with serious intent of trying to recreate the circumstances.  I'm calling it a win.

I don't know about vegies Donuts, but I am now an expert at burning a roast.  A couple of weeks ago I put the roast leg of lamb in the oven, set the timer, and went about a few other tasks.  I went outside to do a bit of whipper snipping, knowing the timer was set and it would be alright, until I went in, and smelled that something was not right.
Suffice to say that the leg of lamb was a bone with some charred meat on it, and nothing else, with no replacement meat.  Luckily the wife is not here and wasn't then.  I confessed what happened to my wife, and she reminded me that she asked me to get the oven fixed or replaced, as the timer does not work.  I am being forgiven as long as she gets my credit card to by whichever oven she wants, I have a feeling I can kiss some wages goodbye, but have to keep her happy.

Considering that the boss usally burnsvthe vegies,I was forgiven straight away. Thats why we use the microwave to cook vegies. Not burning and less cleaning. :-)

I have just put the spuds and vegies on a slow simmer, and the home made meat pie is in the oven on 150.

SHMBO is away again, and I reckon that after 3 nights of sub standard nutrition I need a decent feed.

Can someone please remind me in 20 minutes that dinner is ready ???

Much appreciated.
