This is my 12v extension cable.
Anyone want to hazard a guess on what caused this to happen to the outer sheath?

I put this up, cos when you find out what happened, I'm sure you'll be a bit gob-smacked like me.

Sunlight reflection from mirror?
Nope

Voltage/current overheating???
-
Voltage/current overheating???
Nope.
Clue: It's nothing to do with overheating/current/voltage. The insulation on the red/black wires is intact.

Rodents?
-
Rodents?
Nope. Nothing to do with animals.

Coca Cola?

Coca Cola?
Another good guess, but no. You don't 'ingest' it, you 'apply' it.
-
Sunscreen ?
-
I reckon it may be Vaseline as it is a petroleum based product and will attack many kinds of plastics and rubber. Even maybe sunscreen or similar..
Grrr!!! >:D

So so close. If I was playing this the kids, you'd be 'boiling hot'.

Insect repellent

Must be the Grappa then ...
mustn't "apply" it too liberally.

Cold cream?
Grrr!!! ???

Deep Heat?

Hand Sanitizer ???

yourself on a trip alone with a stickbook?
I'd guess that is the result of the cable coming into contact with Aerogard probably for a day or 2
-
Bushmans would be my guess - I have heard plenty of stories of it absolutely destroying backpacks when it leaks.
-
Insect repellent
BANG! We have a winner. :cup:
That is the result of the cable coming into contact with Aerogard. The stuff we spray all over ourselves and the kids! :o :o :o
The cable gets stored in a small plastic container along with, amongst other things, a pump spray bottle of Aerogard. Needless to say the bottle leaked and the cable sat in it. I worked out that it was probably in contact with it for a day or two. But still... WOW.
Obviously Bushmans has the same effect.
LJ
PS Where should I send the prize too Mike? (It's a couple of unused cans of Aerogard ;) )

yourself on a trip alone with a stickbook?

Really, only with a stick book and you had three kids now that is very interesting..... ;D ;D
-
Most insect repellents make excellent graffiti removers, water will neutralise it.

Grrr!!! >:D
You're not wrong CD. I rarely use it anyway, but the missus does, and on the kids as well... but not anymore.

Yeah I'm EXTREMELY virile. In fact you need to go scrub after reading this... (just don't use Aerogard)
-
Bushman's is a Killer, it melted the plastic cover on my fridge when someone touched it just after applying it (80deet), and the Gelcoat on the Jayco. :-[

Someone just told me that they spray Aerogard on the garden to kill the weed Oxalis. Apparently it doens't hurt the surrounding plants though!? Bushmans doesn't work though. Go figure.
-
When i was last in India a mate of ours had some insect repellant cream that had a high DEET content that he was given in the navy.
He applied the repellent in the morning one day and then by the end of the day the watch he was wearing
around his wrist fell off as the deet had melted the plastic watch band.
Serious stuff that DEET
-
After reading this it now explains why a couple of items in one of my camping boxes perished and needed to be thrown out. Would have put it down to the Bushman’s, so that’s for the post.
-
I remember some time ago we were told not to use flysprays inside our camper. Don't use anywhere near canvas.

MMm, with all this talk about chemicals >:(, does anyone know of a SAFE product that can be used instead? I do not use chemicals at home for cleaning so this one kinda freaks me out!!! :o :o :o

Thanks LJ but I think I will donate it back for a redraw ;D ;D
I don't like either of those sprays or sunscreen - I try to wear a light coloured long sleeve shirt

We have been using RID Tropical strength and it seems to be quiet good, lasts well and no melting (SO far) ;D

I realized how potent Bushmans was when I lightly sprayed my feet and it stripped the nail polish off my beatifully manicured toenails! The next night I went without and was eaten alive by midgies at Port Smith, WA. The kind pharmacist in Port Headland who insisted I double dose Phenergan because "you've gone allergic" recomended I use Sandfly and Mozzie Stuff by The Locals. Has all sorts of wonderful natural ingredients and actually works (soothes if already bitten too).
Here's their website, take a look. I have no affiliation with them just love the fact that it helped ease the itch of more than 50 10cent sized midgie caused bumps per limb.

so aeroguard is used as a contraceptive too? Wow, that IS the Shit...
-
Oil? I had an oil leak in a car once that did the same thing to the alternator wires.
Positive and negative wires ended up welded together and smoked up lol...
ETA: replied before reading all the posts lol

We use the Mozzy Patches, work a treat and your not spraying chemicals all over the kids

Aren't Australian standards great when the msds says hazardous and avoid contact with skin, and that's exactly what it's intended purpose is. Crazy.
-

Wht brand mozzy patches do you use, and do they keep midges away as well???
Also where and how much are they please!
-
Ahhh bugger!!........ I was gunna have a guess and say the answer was ......... You spilt the cannister of cyanide you had stashed on your way to the Mother In Laws place!...... How boring though, just bloody insect repellent...... still prefer my inlaw repellent scenario ;D

Have used these ones and another brand I can't remember at the moment.
As to Ozbogwam well have had the nickname from high school many years ago

DEET is powerful stuff.
Never did like the idea of soaking my mozzie net in deet to ward off the Malarian mozzies, just another excuse to drink more G&T's.
I use a herbal insect repellent.
Maybe also not safe to use over a longer period, who knows. The skin absorbs everything, ......

And if the supermarkets had to supply MSDS with our food,,,, we'd all stop eating and shopping 8)
