Title: Should we head to Beechworth with all these floods?
Post by: JB on March 04, 2012, 09:41:37 PM

We plan to stay on Lake Sambell in Beechworth next weekend (for the long weekend).

As many of you would know there has been a lot of rain in the northeast of Vic and a heap of flooding around Shep, Wang, Bright etc.   Also, a lot of water will take a while to move on because it is pretty flat in parts.

My wife thinks we shouldn't go, that we will get in the way of people needing to be looked after, and those doing the looking after.

I am not familiar with Beechworth so am not sure how it has been affected, whether the roads into Beechworth are affected or whether we will actually be in the way?

If we are not in the way, I would prefer to spend my money up there where I am sure they need it, instead of back in Melb.

Any views?

Cheers

It is a nice sunny day up this way today, the water will drain away pretty quickly and roads are opening up again already.  Be wary of trusting the VicRoads web site, it only showed half the closures that had happened around here so if in doubt phone the local RACV depot and get local first hand knowledge.  Unless there is a heap more rain during the week I reckon you should have no dramas around Beechworth.

I would ring the information centre to double check, as the media are not really good at telling the 'whole' story!!  The weather is going to be nice this week- not too hot, sunny days.  The grass is going nuts!  The water in Wang will recede quickly, as there has been no rain since early Sun am.  The difference between driving into Wang from the King Valley yesterday to today is amazing- where water lay yesterday lunch time, this am was almost all gone!  Beechworth is fairly hilly.  Northern part of the state on the other hand....

Have a good weekend

Thanks guys.  This info, plus a discussion with the caravan park today is good ammunition for my up coming discussion with my wife.

Cheers

Had a mate who just comeback from a weekend at myrtleford and he said it's a little wet under foot as you can imagine from the soaking that area has copped, but it's dried up pretty good and the weather forecast for the weekend is fine
