I have a question with regards to where to source water to fill camper where touring about?
When doing weekend trips carrying enough water is not an issue but we have a 4 week trip planed later on the year and water to fill the camper is the one thing that does concern me.
What do others do in soucring water or what is the go? All assistance gratefully appreciated.

Having owned a servie station before, carry a hose with a click lock connector and the two sizes of screw on connectors to the tap.. When you fuel up at a local servo, ask if its ok to use the driveway tap to top up.
We never refused such a request. We didnt pay the water bill, as a lessee it was the site owners responsibiliy! ;D

On our extended trips we fill up at service stations and information centers. They are often able to tell you where to fill up. I your in caravan park top up before you leave there.
We always ask permission from service stations etc.

We do the same but we always run the water through a ceramic filter.

We fill up the camper at home with filtered water, through a ceramic filter. This is our drinking water and is only used for drinking and cleaning teeth. We have a couple of Jerry cans that we fill up at service stations or rivers and use this water for cooking, washing dishers, showers, filling up the porta loo etc etc. The 110litres in the camper is enough drinking water for the three of us for 4 weeks (I generally drink more beer than water anyway).

We go the other way and use the water in the camper for cooking and washing up. We buy water in 10 litre containers and carry for drinking and coffee. Have always found drinking water for sale and filled the camper at servos. Have always asked and they will tell you what the water is like and if they have rain water or if it is bore water. Won't put bore water in the camper. Also carry to jerry cans which we use for a shower. :cheers:

We have come across a few occasions where, because of the action of previous travellers (and sometimes because of certain local residents) , shops and servos have either disabled their outside taps or put a sign up warning not to use the water. When asked they say they have had travellers leave the taps running and just wasting the water, or just expecting to be able to attach their hose and help themselves. (And some do not want to attract certain local residents to set up camp.)
On Bruny Island, Tasmania, they have to buy their drinking water, so the businesses there are a bit touchy. One hotel would not allow any water to be taken and one shop charged for the water, which was fair enough, although they were a bit rude about it. I think it was only $2 for 20 litres, so it was not a problem. We did find a park where there was a tap and we also used that.
At Halls Creek in the Kimberley the only place to get water was at a community centre and only when they are open. The servo would not allow any water to be taken.
But we have always been able to get water from somewhere. We carry two 20 litres containers of drinking water in the camper, 65 litres in the camper’s tank that we do not use for drinking, and as a last resort we have a 20 litre drinking water in the rear of our 4by. We have only had to use it once.
We have also used creek water for washing and depending on the quality, for drinking. (Liffey Falls in Tasmania was a brilliant free camp and the creek water there was perfect for drinking.)
The secret is to always fill up when you can! Kevin

One tip I have seen mentioned is also to buy a vandal proof 4 way tap adaptor for those taps without the handles....
(Can get from Bunnings for about $8)
Still need to ask and check it is not bore water also.

I'd say it would all depend on where and when you are thinking of travelling.
If you know for sure that there's plenty of good clean water along the way, then why bother taking too much extra? As water is damn heavy.
However when travelling remote & into unknown territory, I'd say 'stuff the weight' and always take plenty plus some more.
By the way, there's some really good advice on the web about quantities to take into remote areas & how much water you need to drink (especially when she's hot).
